vii. SHE'S MY BEST FRIEND
she's my best friend. she reminds me of late night laughter and talking about the future and learning things you never knew before. she's the most beautiful person i know not only on the outside but on the inside, too. she cares too much and at the same time cares too little. she loves with all her heart and it's a blessing and a curse.
she's afraid of what's to come and i just want to hug her and tell her it'll be okay. things will work out in the end. and if they don't, it's not the end. she lives in the future and i don't think she notices. she talks about what she's going to do. what she has to do. what she's afraid to do. but what is she currently doing?
she's currently sitting across from me. she's doing her math homework. she's gripping onto the mechanical pencil as though it might fly out of her hand any moment. her nose is close to the lined paper. she's concentrated.
she's currently sitting in the cafeteria taking pictures on my phone. i'm in the cafeteria fifteen feet away watching her. she sees me and grins and puts my phone down pretending she hadn't picked it up. fast forward, i'm sitting at home and i see the pictures she took. i smile. it hits me how much i appreciate her.
she can't eat ice cream because it makes her sick - she does it anyway. she's a vegetarian but occasionally eats chicken. she wears contacts because she hates her glasses. she likes salads. she hates red peppers. she loves bagels. she used to hate cream cheese. she has fond memories of going to tim hortons and getting a peach juice. she wants to be a french teacher. she also wants to be a hairstylist. she loves hairstyling and makeup - it makes her happy. she's an introvert. she has big ideas to introduce to the world. she's conflicted between what is right and what makes her happy.
she's my best friend.
i love her like i love the smell of new books. i love her like i love crawling into bed after a long day. i love her like i love the rain. i love her like i love bear hugs.
she's my best friend.

the best way to always remember someone is to make
art in their honor. this is my tribute.
