god goddess prince princess
words are just words
until you look at me like that
while they spill past your lips
like an overflowing sink
whispered like sacred scripts.
i'd scratch out the words in the bible
and write your words over top of it all
because you are what i believe in;
your words make me feel holier than any God ever could.
my words are just prayers
they are just me begging
and pleading
to be loved,
cherished,
anything.
these poems are hymns
like the ones you hear in church
while wearing your Sunday best.
but if you listen closely
the only thing i'm ever saying
is love me love me love me
i see pieces of God in these mortals.
their capacity to be helpful; and
their hearts full of gold, silver, and bronze;
those who sacrifice themselves;
the leaders the mediators the lovers;
a poet an artist a beauty;
he is
or has been
all of the above.
lover loved artist art
words are just words
until he says them in that voice:
the under-his-breath-whisper
that sends chills down my shoulders
and off the end of my spine.
it feels like
catching a glimpse of heaven
in my rear view mirror.
my darling
words are just words
until you do something about them.
i remember the most unholy thing i've ever said
and i won't ever forget that moment;
it was like finding God
in the lowest depths of hell.
