Adam: Faulty Memory

I forgot.  My sister had always loved me.  I didn't know this woman.  She only looked like every time I looked in the mirror- but I didn't know her.
"I'm sorry,"  I said, my face lacking feeling from the slap,  "I don't believe we've met."
She gave me a look that was full of horror, and sadness and anger...  just everything into one expression.  It softened into a tired gaze.
"You have my sincerest apologies.  I thought you were my brother, it seems for a moment I forgot that he'd never come back for me."  Eveline bowed her head at me.
It stung.  Every time she spoke I could feel my chest ready to explode with pain.
"I forgot that he didn't care."
    PANG!
"I forgot he never loved me."
She continued until I was looking for the beaten down dust of what remained of my heart, groping around on the floor, in a despairing hope that I'd had a heart to break when I'd walked in.
A tiny part of me was ready to scream, tell her I loved her, that I'd missed her- I thought she'd died.
That tiny part of me was inside a locked chest in the back of my mind.  I'd locked it away the moment I'd seen Seraina at the top of Seeker's Hill for the last time.
I was pulled away now, by the portal logic of the valley.
My sister gave me a look that could only be described as death.  "I hope you never find your way out."  She snarled and then she curled up on the floor and cried.  She screamed, creating a lake in the study, destroying all the books, extinguishing all the candles, and drowning herself in sadness.
