"Hey! Jocelyn!" A male voice yelled behind her.
She turned around with a gasp, a young boy was running toward her, waving. He caught up to her "hey! I'm Michael" he said.
Francis stood invisibly to others; beside her, angry. "Michael leave her alone" he said.
"Come on Francis let me at least say hi" he saw his friends behind them "hey guys wait up!" He ran past them.
"Sorry about him" Francis said.
Jocelyn couldn't talk to him, she wouldn't either. If she talked back to him when he's invisible people would think she's insane, or worse. But she found out he was visible when Hannah ran up to them and asked who he was.
"He's just a friend who just moved here, out in the country" Jocelyn lied.
"He's cute" Hannah whispered in her ear but it was no use, he already heard it and he faked a smile like he was kind.
"Hmph friend my ass, he's kinda close dontcha think?" Shawn said.
Jocelyn hadn't realized he was so close to her, she took a step away from him looking at Alec and Sara. She looked away when Alec and her made eye contact for a second, then started walking away from them.
Hannah looked behind her, saw Alex then looked back and chased after Jocelyn who started to run. She took a left and almost fell down the stairs, then ran down and into a private bathroom, closed then locked the door "Jocelyn! Jocelyn let me in" she said.
"No, I can't even look at him anymore" Jocelyn said. It was seventh grade on homecoming night, she was dating Alec and they were planning to go to the game and the dance. Her mother was at work and wouldn't be home until seven when the game started at six so Alec came into her house.
She joked around with him saying he could join him in the shower but he took it seriously. Her hair was soaked when she turned around and saw him in there, she showed him the shampoo and conditioner then got out. He was taking forever and she ranted on the door telling him to hurry up or they'd be late for the game.
When the door opened Alec was standing there, angry as if he'd gotten in a fight with someone and he punched her, multiple times. When he walked away and she stood up crying he begged for forgiveness .
"Oh my god Jocelyn I'm sorry! I-I have no idea what came over me, I'm so sorry" he begged.
"You hit me! Over and over when I screamed for you to stop just don't touch me, stay away from me" Jocelyn moved back in fear, was trembling and hyperventilating.
Later that night they went to the game like nothing happened and Jocelyn didn't know why. But she just couldn't talk to him the way they used to and they broke up, they would've gone to the dance but he didn't have a ride back and Jocelyn's mother told her that some town people snitched on her because she was swearing too much. She cried herself to sleep.
The next few months at school were awkward, people found out and judged and hated her, Alec had quit going to that school for the year and apparently came back. She was scared and felt like crying every time she thought about it.
She unlocked the door for Hannah who pushed her back and locked the door again. Jocelyn stood there feeling like a child "I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me. I feel so stupid" she said "it was a long time ago, I'm such a child".
Hannah hugged her "I understand why you're still worried and scared, I would be too if someone saw me naked and then punched me a lot. Don't feel stupid, he's really different now, your my bestfriend, if he breaks your heart I'll break his face, a lot" she chuckled and made a smile that showed she was trying to comfort Jocelyn.
Jocelyn washed her face and walked out, school hadn't even started yet and they still had ten minutes. Francis stood in the arch way, leaning on the frame, arms crossed and head down. He heard them and looked up "are you ok?" He asked.
Jocelyn nodded in response as Hannah and her started to walk, he unfolded his arms, pushed himself off the frame and joined their walk down the hallway.
Shawn was talking to Dustin and another boy, he glanced past them. It looked like he said "see you later" to them and then started toward Hannah, who started to speed walk to him.
Class felt like it lasted for years. Francis had walked Jocelyn home since her mother had dropped her off.
"So tell me, to I have to become one of you if my life is ever in danger?" She asked.
"To be honest, you already are. Your parents were Chaos when you were born, but-" he stopped before he could mention her father.
"But what?"
"Nothing, sorry I even responded" he said looking away.
She stopped walking "tell me, but what?" She repeated.
"You and your mother are human because of your father, your mother said he died from a car accident but it's not true, he was murdered by the Foreshadowed, he was gonna die from the king since he disobeyed anything the king demanded, that's why your human, because the first punishment was to lose family meaning turning back their soal to a human body" he replied getting annoyed, he couldn't believe he had said that but he couldn't handle her agitating him all the time.
Jocelyn let out a gasp at his response, Francis went home and Jocelyn started to run the other direction she was going. She ran and cried, she thought people would look at her as if someone was gonna kill her but they would never say anything and think she's crazy but she didn't care. She ran to Shawns house. Even though he didn't know about The Chaos and The Foreshadowed and she couldn't tell him, she could still tell that her father was murded.
The man that helped give her life and the man she never met or remembered.
"Francis! What the hell is wrong with you?" His mother yelled at her as he laid on his back on the bed.
"Lots of things mother, God that annoying mouth of hers" he muttered.
"Your actions may have costed us punishment, costed me punishment. Meaning losing you and Michael and if you want to be human so damn badly then go talk to the king, you wouldn't survive a fucking hour in that da-" she started.
"You watch your tongue to your son" the King said in the doorway which made her gasp and move aside from the bed.
"My King I-I didn't hear you come in" the women shuddered.
Francis sat up, he may have his personality that the King knew was impossible to change and didn't have to be kind, he still had to be respectful when it came to positions.
"Francis what have you done that your mother had to wake up the whole dead and yell at you?"
"I told Jocelyn Green about her-".
"Jocelyn Green? As in Caitlin Green's daughter?" The king interrupted.
"Yes, I told her about her father" Francis felt nervous.
"If Caitlin ever finds out, she will have your head and if I were Jocelyn she's probably already ran home to her and yelled at her asking why she lied to her all these years about her fathers death, you keep an eye on her Francis Closh or you will pay, be careful what you say, The Foreshadowed are envy where these days and if their leader finds out her life will be in danger and so will ours. No one knows the power she has" the king nodded to the mother and disappeared.
Francis and his mother made eye contact "you heard him, keep an eye on her" she said and walked out.
