Jess always admired the way he was able to leave someone's life as quickly as he had become part of their life. Contrary to what most people thought, he didn't do this because he was an asshole, he thought that he burdened people. Jess' reasoning is that if he could make his escape before other people left him, it would spare him a world of hurt... and for a while it did just exactly that.
It was ironic how he liked that one feature he had while at the same time, his biggest regret was leaving Rory without a word. Jess felt like he had basically done the same thing to Rory when he left to meet his birth-mother and half-brother.
Jess was sitting at a table with these strange people who he knew that new relationships would have to be formed with these people and all he could think about is Rory.

"Excuse me," Jess said, as he politely made an exit from the dining room table to the other room. He walked out the sliding glass doors out on his new family's back patio. He took his phone out and searched for Rory's contact until he finally got her number then pressed call. A few rings later and no answer. "Hey, I miss you. Call me when you get this." Jess put his phone in his pocket, then returned to figuring out who the new people in his life were.

Rory's P.O.V. *

Logan came up and hugged me when he entered the coffee shop. He still had the same old haircut with the same old clothes and it was like nothing had changed. Except us. Being out of a relationship with Logan had shown me how difficult the relationship actually was. Logan had his flaws and I definitely had mine.
After Logan and I had broken up, my passion for writing and politics grew into what it was when I went to Chilton and I don't know where that all went away to begin with.
As Logan ordered a latte, I stuck to regular coffee. He thanked the waitress and I noticed a newfound maturity in Logan as we caught up about the last few months.
"So are you seeing anyone?" Logan asked the dreaded question.

"Yeah." I smiled softly.
"Oh," Logan smirks. "Who's the lucky guy, Ace?"
"Jess, actually."
And this was when Logan's entire persona changed. "What?" I could literally feel the shift in the air as he grew from calm to pissed off.
"He's really grown up," I said, trying to diffuse the tension.
"Really? Because insulting me in-front of you was grown up? That was two years ago, Rory." The scowl on his face kept getting uglier and meaner by the second.
"Exactly, that was two-years ago! And to be fair you were being really rude to him." I defended.
"Imagine driving up to visit your girlfriend and having a guy that you don't know fawning over her!"
People in the coffee shop were starting to stare at us.
"I'm sorry," I gave in. "I don't think he was fawning over me but we hadn't seen each other in years. He wanted to catch up. Like you and I were doing literally a few minutes ago."
"I'm sorry I lost it." Logan sighs. "Look, I'm going to go. It was nice seeing you." He quickly said as he begun to rush out the door.
