(Kalifa)

I woke up to a constant beeping noise, it was like pain to my ears. My body was aching badly, it felt like I was hit with a ton of bricks. My eyes slowly adjusted to the lighting in the room and I could see Michele, Asandra and Sofia watching tv.

"I just don't understand why she has to deal with so much." I heard Michele crying.

"Me either, but God only allows the worst to happen to the strongest people. She is a soldier, a warrior, she's a fighter. We can't be mad at that." Asandra cried as well.

"I'm just tired of hearing bad news and also being the one who relays the message. I don't share the same strength as her, I can't take much and losing my son..." She paused. My eyes shut tightly and I was forced to shed tears with them. "I just can't."

My eyes met with Sofia's and she smiled brightly, wiping her face with tissue.

"Hi." My throat was super dry and my voice extremely raspy. They looked at me with smiles on their faces.

"Glad to see your beautiful eyes baby." Asandra kissed my forehead.

"Hello sunshine!" Sofia kissed my cheek. "How are you feeling?"

"Could be better, can you get me something to drink?" I asked.

"Absolutely mami, be right back!" She quickly left the room.

"Hi Kalifa." Michele tried to embrace whatever she could and broke down in tears. Soon after the whole room was filled with more sobering. "I'm so glad you're okay and awake."

"How long have I been in here?" I tried sitting up but winced in pain.

"Three days." Sofia answered while putting a straw to my lip. I slurped in the coolness of the water, the tightness in my throat loosened up as well.

"Wow." Was all I could manage to say. "When can I get out of here?"

"Hello Kalifa." A man smiled while entering the room. "I'm Dr. Yee, I was told of your recent response. How are you feeling?"

"I feel like I was hit by a semi truck." I shrugged.

"As you should. You had a nasty fall, I'm surprised you survived. Usually a fall like that can cause chronic hemorrhage and in most cases women lose their lives due to the loss of blood. You're lucky." I looked at him confusingly and my hands quickly went to my belly.

There was nothing there...
