*Three Months Later*
"Ball! Ball!" I yelled to my teammate. We were down two points in the game with ten seconds left. I was trailing my way up the court, keeping myself open. "Pass the ball!" I yelled with my hands up.
Rodney threw the ball on cue, blocking the other team as I took the shot. 5, 4, 3, 2, SWISH!!! The crowd screamed in pleasure, my team going ballistic, the final score was 72 to 69.
"That's how you play ball!!" The coach yelled to the team. The whole school joined the teams chant as we crowded the court.
"CAN'T NOBODY GET DOWN WITH US! CAN'T NOBODY PLAY BALL LIKE US! SQUADDDDDDDD!" It was the school's victory chant.
Now I'm sitting in the locker room, playing with my phone. I texted Kalifa to tell her I'd be home early tonight. I got up to take a shower, I like to be one of the last.
"Man, I got this new shit called Blaze, you want some?" Haron asked.
"Didn't I tell you I don't do that shit? Keep it to yourself man." He always tried to sell to me, it's crazy.
"Stop being a pussy Q. Take a hit or I'm going to blow your brains out." Darrell waved a gun in my face. Shit. Flashes of my brother ran through my mind.
I told myself that I would never be a product of the streets,
I would never let a gun be the death of me,
Not ever will I sniff my pain away or stick a needle in me to take me to another galaxy
I would never use drugs to take me away from reality
And I would never be someone who's punked by the biggest coward standing behind a gun
People say that bullets don't have a name but I disagree
A bullet will only hit the person that is standing in it's way
And I'm determined that, that will never be me
I will never fall victim to the streets, even if the streets always surrounded me
I'm not afraid of a gun, a gun is harmless
I'm afraid of what I'll do to the nigga that's behind it...
So while Darrell stood there waving his piece, my brother already took over like a raging bull
My hands kept swinging, beating Darrell's skull, I tried to stop my brother from killing this man but my voice kept quiet I had nothing to do with it then
"Don't ever pull a gun out on me unless you use it!" I grabbed my bag pushing other teammates off of me
"It's alright, you better watch your back Q!" Darrell yelled while spitting blood from his lips.
"And you watch my left hook." I said while keeping my back turned from him. I got in my car and took my pill case out of the glove department. I popped two pills in my mouth, already knowing that I needed to calm us down.
