Chapter Seven - Recovering and Discovering Her Heritage

That night before leaving the Healing Rooms Loki took Olivia's ring from her finger and placed it on his own so that he could communicate easily with Helblindi on Jotunheim. "Brother I would appreciate it very much if you could visit us again as soon as you feel able so that you can see Olivia but also so that we can talk." He then returned the ring to her finger before retiring for the night.

Next morning over breakfast he informed his mother and father that he had requested Helblindi visit to see Olivia and also to discuss her injuries. As they all ate he also told the Avengers about Olivia's condition and the fact that Eir was pretty sure she would have no voice upon waking. "The fact that she may have lost her voice it concerns me a great deal, tell me if you can how do people fair on Midgard if they have not the power of speech?"

"There are many on Midgard who cannot speak and although they do not live totally normal lives they are able to cope with most things and situations that they come across" Tony answers his question.

As they all murmur their agreement Bruce adds "they have their own language that they use amongst themselves, I myself learnt to speak sign language as there was a colleague at the University that was deaf and it enabled us to work together on my research."

"That is a term I believe for someone who cannot hear if I remember correctly from what Erik told me" Thor looks at them questioningly "how would that help Olivia it is her voice not her hearing that is in question?"

"Thor you fool" Loki says "someone who can't hear often has speech problems which makes it easier for them to communicate via this language than via their voices. Do you not recall the elderly royal on Vanaheim who lost his hearing and then could not speak properly?"

"Ah yes" Thor acknowledges "I do recall him now."

Odin looks at Frigga who is watching Loki intently "what do you think Allmother?"

She sighs "I believe that Olivia's throat will eventually heal completely but that does not necessarily mean that her voice will return. Even if it does return she may sound different as the damage could have affected her vocal chords."

Natasha shakes her head "that would be a shame, she had such a beautiful voice when she sang."

"I didn't know she sang?" Tony looks at Natasha surprise evident in his voice.

"She may not have told us when she arrived at the Tower but Hawk and I saw her perform last year. Do you remember Clint it was when we were in that Bar in Long Island."

"Oh Jesus was she the one that got asked to get up and sing with the band that night" as Natasha nods "wow she was amazing sure hope she hasn't lost her voice or that it hasn't changed too much."

Loki stands "Captain Rogers would you accompany me to the Healing Rooms please?"

"Of course" he stands and after they both bow to Odin and Frigga Loki leads him out of the Dining Hall and to the Healing Rooms. "Boy she looks pretty beaten up but a lot better than when we brought her back last night" he says as they walk over to the bed containing Olivia.

"Indeed" Loki lifts his hand and a green glow covers his hand as he moves it from Olivia's head to her feet "it appears her ribs are almost repaired and many of her cuts have already gone as I told you earlier her throat as you can see, is now the worst of her injuries. One thing I do not understand and neither do Eir and mother is why the bruising does not appear to be lessening though, she appears to be healing in all other respects quite quickly."
