Chapter Nine - I'm Sorry

Arriving back at Avengers Tower she finds them all waiting for her including Director Fury and after the happy welcome back he asks to speak to her alone but she refuses. "I'm sorry but I will not be joining the Avengers I do not feel 100% recovered yet and until I do I will not even entertain the idea." She turns to Thor "I need to go and get something from my home and write a letter for Loki could you please take me as it will be quicker."

He nods then turns to look at the others as Olivia walks over to the lift and pushes the button "go with her Thor make sure she's okay. See if you can get her to come back here with you if not I'll pop over to see her tomorrow" Steve says as Thor turns to follow Olivia.

It doesn't take long with Thor's help to get to her home then turning to him she asks "it will take me a while to find the right words for Loki so could you please come back this evening I promise I'll have everything ready by then" she smiles but Thor notices it's not the genuine smile he is used to seeing. "Loki must think me very rude for not saying goodbye but it was such a shock Odin dismissing me like that and I didn't want a confrontation with him over my return home."

Thor takes her hand "its okay Olivia I will return later and I'm sure that Loki will understand father's decision after all we all knew you would be returning at some point, he will not be annoyed with you over this."

With a wave he leaves and Olivia enters the house alone. She finds the house spotless, Steve had told her that as soon as she had disappeared he had arranged for one of Peggy's nieces to check on the house for her and she clearly had done a good job. He must have also informed her that she was due home because in the kitchen she found fresh bread, milk and basic supplies. With a heavy heart she makes herself a drink then fetches her mother's St Christopher from her jewellery box, picking up a notepad she then sits to compose a letter to Loki.

Dearest Loki

I am so sorry about the way I left Asgard I know it was not what either of us was expecting by I guess Odin saw a chance to rid himself of the tiresome burden that I had become and took it. I would have said sorry in person but I was so shocked and upset by the sudden nature of his order for me to leave that I took the coward's way out. I presume your mother informed you of how upset I was about leaving, in truth it was because I had truly come to enjoy my time in Asgard especially the company of a certain Prince.

I have enclosed with this letter a Midgardian trinket called a St Christopher's Medal it is given to those whom you hold dear as a good luck amulet. This belonged to my mother so you will appreciate it holds great significance for me I hope this will prove to you that you hold a special place in my heart. St Christopher is the patron saint of travellers and I hope that this gift will keep you safe on your travels through the realms as and when you are allowed the freedom to enjoy them once more. I know that your mother wishes you to be able to visit me at some point here or for me to visit you but that of course will depend on Odin. I have no idea how long my life span is although I know it will be like Steve longer than most mortals that is one thing I suppose I should have tried to find out about but didn't. Still maybe it will be long enough that Thor will be on the throne of Asgard and we can see each other again even if I'm old and wrinkly by then.

I wish you well in your life and thank you for looking after me while I was there. You truly are a wonderful person who I am pleased to call my friend. I hope so much that we will be able to meet again at some point so until then you will always be in my thoughts and heart.

Later that evening Thor returned to collect the letter for Loki before returning to Asgard. Upon arriving there he went straight to see Loki but found he was not in his chambers so went in search of his mother. On entering her chambers he found both of them together with Odin and Loki was not in the least bit happy. "I hope I am not interrupting anything of importance but I have something for Loki" he walks over to his brother as he says this and hands him the envelope.

"What is this?" Loki snaps.

"Olivia asked me to give this to you personally, she did not trust anyone else with that task" Loki looks up at Thor who smiles at him "you should open it."

"He does not need to have any communication with Olivia she has returned home and that is the last he will see of her" Thor looks at his father in shock.

"Why do you say that, what has she done to anger you so much that you forbid her and Loki to have any contact, they are friends and she appreciates the help he has given her these last few weeks."

Thor cannot understand Odin's attitude, Frigga is shaking her head sat next to him "husband you cannot expect either Loki or Olivia to be happy with what you have done. They had no warning that you would send her home did you really expect Loki to not be angry with you." While this is being said Loki has opened and read the note from Olivia then finding the gift inside he tips it out of the envelope onto his hand. "What have you got there?" Frigga stands and walks towards him.

Olivia has sent me a letter and a gift, he looks up at Odin "you will live to regret this, you have taken something away from me again as you always do." He hands the St Christopher to his mother "would you please help me to put this on" Frigga does as he asks "mother tells me that you did this because you did not want me to be hurt and risk me falling into despair and in that despair causing trouble for you." He takes a deep breath "well just so you know sending Olivia back to Midgard like this has hurt me more than even finding out that you were not my real family, I will take my leave now but do not expect to see me any time soon, Thor I would talk with you when you have finished with your father." With that he turns and leaves Frigga's chambers for his own.

"Odin my dear I fear you have made a grave mistake on this occasion, I told you what I had seen and that Loki would meet another mixed race person like himself and she would hold his heart. Why did you choose to take no heed of what I said?"

"I am still not sure she is the one you have foreseen, if they remain in contact with each other and she truly is the one then I will allow Loki to visit her, but until I am sure then this is the best course of action. Loki may calm in a few days and start to forget Olivia we will have to wait and see I cannot risk him being hurt any more than he already has I would not be able to forgive myself if I allowed that to happen a second time" he stands and leaves Thor alone with his mother.
