Chapter XLVIX: Return

Daniel slept for 8 hours straight. Maaga siyang nakatulog dahil sa sakit ng ulo. His vision was blurry this past few days at binalewala niya ito.

Nang magising siya, he can hear the songs being played downstairs, naririnig din niya ang pag hiwa ni Kathryn ng kung ano sa kitchen, and his morning strongly smells like coffee.

He felt his head light, nawala na ang sakit ng ulo niya. Daniel was about to open his eyes to welcome the new day. Dahan dahan siyang dumilat expecting to see the view outside their window. But he couldn't see anything, it was dark. Pitch dark that he couldn't see a thing. It's like he's gone blind.

Minulat niya uli ang mga mata niya just to make sure his eyes are opened.  Nakadilat nga siya pero bakit wala pa rin siyang makita kundi itim at itim, wala talaga siyang matanaw.

He tried to reach for the bedside table where his phone was pero natabig niya ito at nahulog sa sahig. Kumalabog ito. Masama na ang kutob niya. Hindi lang ito basta madilim. May mali sa katawan niya. May dahilan kung bakit hindi siya makakita.

Kinapa niya agad ang kama para malaman kung naroon ba si Kathryn. The other side of the bed is empty, tama nga siya nasa baba ito sa kusina.

"Baby?" Daniel called trying to hide his shattering voice at first. Trying to compose his own calm, trying to think or to wake up again from another bad dream. But he was already awoke to have nightmares. It was simply reality slowly crawling inside of him, and it scared the hell out of him.

"Babe, I'm here...cooking breakfast. Come down na." he heard her voice from downstairs. Somehow he's relieved to know that she is okay. Pero ano ang nangyayari sa kanya bakit kahit ilang beses siyang pumikit at dumilat ay wala siyang makitang kahit na anong liwanag. His world was in darkness and it felt like burying him alive.

"Baby?! Saan ka?! Kath!!" hindi na naitago pa ni Daniel ang panginginig ng boses niya at tiyak niya papunta na si Kathryn sa kanya.

"Babe...what's wrong? Why are you--" he heard Kathryn stop in mid sentence. As if trying to analyze and sort out the situation.

He had his arms raised forward asking for her to reach him, agad naman niyang naramdaman ang mga kamay nito to his arms and shoulders hanggang sa hawakan nito ng buo ang mukha niya. She is breathing, she is fine, napaluha si Daniel.

"Babe, anong problema? Why are you shouting. Hey I'm here." she cups his face making him look at her but he couldn't seem to follow.

"Kath..." he calls her. "Bakit wala akong makita?" Daniel asked in despair. He was afraid to ask but he was more than afraid of the answer.

Walang naging sagot si Kathryn pero nararamdaman niyang umiiyak ito.

"Baby?! Anong nangyayari? Bakit di ako makakita?!" inaabot niya kay Kathryn ang mga kamay niya na agad naman nitong kinuha at niyakap siya ng mahigpit.

"Punta tayo ng doctor ha, papa check up natin yang mga mata mo...baka temporary lang yan, I'm sure magagamot yan." sabi ni Kathryn, she wanted to shake the idea off her head.

"Hindi pwedeng gawa na naman to ni Severino.Hindi niya to pwedeng gawin kay Daniel." inuulit ni Kathryn sa isip niya, kinukumbinsi na wala itong kinalaman sa pagiging Eiraya niya.
But in her mind, alam niyang ito ang dahilan. It was a struggle to separate the doubts and the truth. It collides and hits her like how canyons to walls, they destroy and they shatter.
