We pass through the invisible barrier and see a mansion like log cabin. Four stories high with a wrap around deck and each window lit with a welcoming yellow light, a sense of being home overcomes me.
Evelyn held the door open, "I had a few Dwelves cook a meal for you all. Please, follow Pea, she'll take you to the dining room."
"Dwelves?" I turn to Aliyah.
Suddenly, her gaze becomes sharp and mouth is set in a thin line, "Think of House Elves but worse."
"How so?"
"When Enchantment was made, cross breeding different creatures was a popular thing. Some fool thought a Dwarf and an Elf would make a good new species. Gods, were they wrong. Dwelves are a laughing stock, they're a joke. Neither side of their born genes want them." She explains, griping Seths hand.
"Why?" Kyle asked, pushing his way to my other side.
"They're pushovers. Elves are about beauty and grace and battle and harmony and you know. Dwarves take pride in their work and refuse to be walked on. The Dwelves are only kept around because they can take orders."
"It is sad," Evelyn was standing in front of us and proved my theory of her listening in to our conversation, "I treat my Dwelves with respect, as you all will too."
Pea the Dwelf came out. No need to lie, she was hideously adorable. I have yet to see a dwarf but I can tell she's taller then them, almost to my elbow. Her skin was ghastly pale and appeared dirty though her simple black dress was clean. Her cheeks bones were high, like an elf, but her nose and chin were stubbed like a dwarf. Then her lips were paper thin and stained blue. Her eyes were uneven in size, the right notably bigger and were purple. Her hair was patchy and sort of a dark red, but could be mistaken for brown. I see her ears are somewhat pointed but nowhere near the sharpness of a true elf's. Her limbs extremely thing but had a round belly. Once you got past her exterior and met her gaze, you'd see the determination she carried within herself.
Immediately I liked this weird creature in front of me.
"It is an honor to host the Elementals. I will lead you to the dinner we shall eat in the name of you all." Pea said and begin walking.
We trail behind her and I pinch Kyles side when I hear him snickering.
"I raised her from a dweling and I have taught her to be strong. She is the role model for the other dwelves I have working under me, Pea sets an example. Be warned, not every dwelf is like her or with her vocabulary." Evelyn said, her gaze switching to Pea.
We enter the large dining room and as I take a seat I murmur to Aliyah, "When we take our thrown back, remind me about Dwelves."
She seems to forget any anger and gave me a smile, "Will do."
You make me proud, little wave.
Several dwelves came out of a side door carrying soup and placed it in front of us. I can tell this is Enchantain food because there is nothing human about the magic mushrooms in it. I'm surprised how good it tastes, I had grown used to human food and purposely asked chef to never prepare me anything remotely Enchantain. Only because I was afraid to eat a unicorn or something. As I finish my soup I steal a glance at Evelyn. Dark brown hair, Frey eyes with short eyelashes, around Esters height and curvy. She gives a nice "mother" vibe.
