When to Accept Your Defeat

I gave this bitch everything I had and then some. I launched water, ice, snow whatever form of liquid I could at her. While I also attacked her mind, doing what I could to peak inside her crazed brain and gain understanding of her.

Somehow, she still managed to stand strong. I could visibly see her struggling, but she wasn't about to give up easily.

With a quick glance I see how some paused to watch our fight. This is what it all comes down to. This is why we fought. Why we paraded around our own kingdom spreading our name. I wasn't backing down. Neither was she.

I stop my attack and slow my breathing. My heart slams against my chest and I can barely stand still.

"Look at her!" I shout to both armies, "She is holding her ground. She is putting up a fight. But she hasn't seen nothing of what I've got."

Laufeia shot a thick black line of darkness at me. I catch it and toss it aside and dramatically spread my arms wide and clap my hands once, shooting a powerful stream of hot water at her.

She screamed at the boiling water that burned her pale flesh. But I didn't like that. I don't like hurting her not one bit.

She's after my crown, my title, my name, my power. She used my father's dead body as a powerhouse. She's a liar, a murderer. She's been running my kingdom, moving into my castle like she's better than me.

But she's also an Enchantain. She's one of my people, however Dark she's become. Killing the demons in In terra eorum Dracones in front of Juto and my other Elementals was just not me. I don't want to have to kill. Maybe Laufeia can be spared, but still punished for her crimes.

I'm not Zayden, our legacies are meant to be different. I'm a queen, not a killer. I will defend my people and Light, but there are other more just ways to do so. I know killing her is the goal for today, but maybe by showing mercy it will make Enchantains realize I will make a great queen. Or they might view it as weak and say Zayden and my male ancestors were better because they didn't mind getting blood on their hands.

Looking in her amber eyes, seeing the evil reflected there, I can't help but feel pity.

I let my stream die and lower my hands. "Laufeia. Surrender."

She gives her maniacal laughter, "You really are a weak little thing. What, can't stomach murder?"

"I can, but I don't want to rule or start off my rein like this. Surrender." I say, controlling my temper and trying to be even and fair.

Without answering, she had a swarm of demonic bugs fly at me. I roll my eyes and drown them in a wave.

Suddenly, the magic of Enchantment speaks to me. "Melody."

"Azarlus," I mumble.

"Remember, what your strongest asset over this woman is. What makes you greater. Following Light, being the true queen, sure all those put you above her. But what is the one thing you know your power is unmistakable and a thing she can never, and will never, touch." Azarlus said.

I blink, thinking hard. It's not my element. Not my crown or lineage. Azarlus said it isn't Light. So what, is the true difference between Laufeia and I?

As the answer slams into my head, I feel like slapping myself for being so stupid.

"Thank you." I smile brightly.

I know I have been promising updates and not delivering but please remember I do not get paid for this and juggle school, work and daily duties while still trying to write. There isn't much left to be said in Melody's story, well in this portion anyway. There will be a third part to this series. SO yeah, only a few chappies left to ENCHANTMENT.

Now, what do you think so far? Short as heck but you guys really deserved an update. What is it that Melody has?  Will it finally destroy Laufeia?
