"Harry." I say, louder than last time. Even though it's quite dark, I know Harry is looking at me.
"Darcy, are you alright?" Harry asks her, again. Darcy shrugs his hands off her shoulders, and moves back.
"I'm fine." Darcy says, curtly. "Thank you for helping me." My eyes land on the puppy that is wiggling in Darcy's arms.
"Mamma, I'm going to the car. Please come fast, I'm tired." Darcy says, heading towards the parking lot.
"Okay," I say. Harry lifts his right arm, and hisses. Hastily, I take my phone out of my pocket, and switch on the flashlight. There's a huge gash on his arm, and blood is gushing out of it.
"Harry, you're seriously hurt. Come with me, I'll take care of that wound." I say, motioning for him to follow me. I turn around and head towards Darcy's school. After a few seconds, I realize that Harry isn't following me. I turn around to find him walking off in the opposite direction.
"Harry!" I yell, running after him. I slow down as I fall in stride with him.
"Follow me." I say, grabbing his arm. Harry shrugs my hand off, roughly. I'm taken aback by his action.
"Harry?" I say, placing my hand on his shoulder. He shrugs it off again.
"Stop following me." Harry says, sternly. "Go, and handle your daughter." Did he call Darcy my daughter?
"Harry, she's fine. You're hurt." I say, standing in front of him. Harry stops, but he doesn't look at me. I place my hands on his shoulders.
"Look at me, please." I say, as gently as I can. However, Harry just shrugs my hands off. Again.
"Move out of my way." Harry says, through gritted teeth. Why is he acting so cruel towards me? Of course, I know. Anyone would act cruel towards me if I treated them the way I treated Harry.
"Harry, look at me. Please, let's go, and clean up your wound." I beg him. Harry sidesteps me, and starts to head down the road.
"The wounds that need cleaning can't be cleaned." Harry says, although I think I wasn't supposed to hear that.
"Harry!" I call after him. No, I won't stop following him. I've met him after so long, and I can't let this chance go.
"Harry, why are you here?" I ask him, deciding to make casual conversation. Even though, I know it's going to be highly tough making casual conversation right now.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know I had to take your permission." Harry says, sarcastically. I roll my eyes, but I don't want to give up.
"I'm starting to think that you're following me." I say, smiling at the thought. I would love it if Harry followed me like before.
"Follow you?" Harry scoffs. "I'm not going to make that kind of a mistake again."
"Why are you behaving in this manner?" I ask him, desperation evident in my tone.
"Oh, so you're not pleased? I don't get you." Finally, Harry stops. "Mus, when I follow you, you run away. When I don't care anymore, when I've moved on, you want me to. What's your deal?" Harry's words hit me like a bulldozer. He's right, though. I am so selfish. I didn't care about him when he wanted me and now, when he doesn't give a damn about me, I want Harry to chase me, and talk to me. I am such a selfish woman.
"I-I'm sorry." I say because I don't know what else to say. I'm speechless. I was living in denial until now. Harry confronting me with this whole situation has made me come to terms with it. I am a bitch. I am a cruel, selfish bitch.
"I don't need your apologies anymore." Harry says, shaking his head, and rushing down the street. He doesn't care anymore. For some reason, a laugh escapes my lips. I don't know what I'm doing in life anymore. First, I was running away from Harry when he was chasing me. Now, when he doesn't give a shit about me, I'm yearning for his love, and attention. I'm so messed up in the head. I turn around, and head towards the parking lot. I can feel stray tears rushing down my cheeks. What should I do?
"Mamma!" Darcy calls. I look up to find her standing near the entrance of the parking lot, with a puppy in her hand.
"Darcy, I told you to go to the car." I say, swiftly wiping my cheeks.
"I did. But, you took so long, and I got worried so I was coming to look for you. I can't trust him." Darcy explains.
"Don't speak about Harry in that manner. He's your father." I know I'm the one who has sown these seeds of hatred in Darcy's mind. However, now I'm regretting the things that I told her.
"A father?" Darcy scoffs. "He left us, mamma. What did he tell you that you're siding with him?"
"He told me he loves me." I whisper, thinking about the numerous occasions when Harry has confessed his love for me. However, I turned him down time, and time again. Darcy laughs.
"Loves you? Never." Darcy's tone is venomous. How did I make her hate Harry so much? Why did I turn a daughter against her father? Harry is being proven right, again, and again. I am selfish. I am a bitch.
"Come on, let's go home, and talk." Darcy says, walking towards me. She shifts the weight of the puppy to one arm, and she grabs my hand with the other. Let's lighten the mood.
"You're so dumb, you know that, right?" I ask her. Darcy looks at me, confused. "Darcy, you were ready to die for a puppy."
"I've got this trait from you. Last summer, you climbed that tree to help that bird that was stuck, and in doing so, you got stung by wasps." Darcy says, laughing. I laugh as well, even though I wasn't laughing when they stung me.
"That was painful." I was in the hospital for two days, and once I was discharged, I had to stay at home for two more.
"You can't say anything to me." Darcy says, looking at the puppy fondly.
"What're you going to name her?" I ask Darcy. Her eyes widen.
"You're going to let me keep her?" Darcy says, her tone incredulous.
"Of course. Animal, and dog lover, remember?" I say, laughing. Darcy grins.
"Thank you! I love you so much." Darcy says, excitedly.
"I love you, too. Get in the car." I say, still laughing at her high level of excitement. It's easy to act happy. It's never easy to be happy. Darcy is the one stable thing in my life, and I want to cherish her forever. I will cherish her forever. Darcy is the only thing that connects Harry, and me as well. She's the only relationship that Harry can't forget about or break. As I'm about to get in the car, my phone starts to ring in my pocket.
"Give me a second." I say, and Darcy nods her head, petting her new puppy. I take out my phone, and Josh's name is on the screen. I roll my eyes, sighing.
"Hi." I say.
"Mus." Josh sighs. "Thank God, you picked up. I was so worried."
"You didn't have to be."
"Yes, I do. I love you, of course I have to be worried about you and Darcy." I smile at his words.
"Yeah, you're right." I don't return his I love you because I'd be lying if I told him that. I'm torn between two emotions, and two men. I don't know what to do, and this is the most frustrating feeling in the world.
"Mus, where are you?" Josh asks me, snapping me out of my reverie.
"At Darcy's school. We're going to head home after we end this call." I say, picking at my red nail polish.
"Can you drop Darcy, and come to Nando's? Please." I sigh. I'm so tired, and I need some time to think. "I know you're tired, and I'm highly sorry for asking you to come." Josh is asking me so nicely, I don't have the heart to deny him.
"Okay." I say, and I know Josh is smiling.
"I love you! Come fast." Josh says, ending the call. I put my phone back in my pocket, and get into the car.
"That took long." Darcy says as I start the engine.
"Yeah, sorry. Josh wants me to come to his office party." I explain. "I'll drop you off, and head to Nando's." Darcy groans, but she doesn't ask me to stay.
"Okay. Come home fast, though." Darcy says, passing her hand over the puppies head.
"Yeah, we'll come home early." I assure her. This is going to be one, long night.
