"Where's my suit!?" Josh yells from our room. Sighing, I grab my coffee mug, and head upstairs.
"It's in the cupboard. Open your eyes, and look properly." I say, climbing the stairs two at a time. Josh has a bad habit of searching for things carelessly.
"It's not there." Josh whines as I enter the room. Laughing, I place my mug on the table.
"Let me help you." I say, opening the cupboard.
"Thanks." After a few seconds of searching, my eyes finally land on his black suit. I take it out, and place it on the bed.
"Thank you so much, you're a miracle worker." Josh says, gratefully. He comes towards me, and gives me a light peck on my forehead.
"You're welcome." I say, picking up my coffee mug.
"Mus, you should throw some of your clothes. Our closet is a mess." Josh says, entering the bathroom. I don't have that many clothes. In fact, Josh has more clothes than I do.
"Josh, the closet is full due to your clothes. You're buying a new shirt every week, and you don't throw away your old ones." I grab the television remote, and take a seat on the bed.
"Oh, please." I roll my eyes. Josh always thinks it's my fault. He wants me to compromise, but he won't do a thing himself. Things have become so tough recently. I can't make all the sacrifices. Josh wanted to move to Singapore so we did. I don't enjoy it here, though. The weather's far too humid for me, and I don't enjoy the malls or sightseeing places here.
"Mus, we have to go to that office party tonight." Josh says, coming out of the bathroom, fully dressed.
"Office party?" I ask him, confused.
"I told you about it last night." Josh says, matter-of-factly.
"No, you didn't." Yesterday, I was out with Darcy, and Josh didn't mention a party at all.
"Look, if you want to argue then you can, but I clearly remember mentioning it to you." Huffing, I get off the bed.
"I can't come tonight." I say, picking up my phone.
"Why?" Josh asks me, wearing his socks.
"Darcy has an art exhibition at her school. I can't miss it." I say, sternly.
"It's just an art exhibition."
"It's just an office party. I promised her, Josh. I can't break my promise." Josh huffs, and exits the room. I follow him.
"Is her happiness more important or ours?" I ask him as we descend the stairs.
"It's not about our feelings, it's about our priorities." Josh says. "And your priorities aren't straight."
"My priorities?" I say, laughing in disbelief. "Josh, you can't always blame me. Have you ever considered that you're to blame, too?"
"No, because I'm not at fault." Josh enters the kitchen. I twist my engagement ring around my finger as I do when I'm anxious or nervous.
"That's your problem." I say, turning on my heel. Suddenly, Josh yanks me back. My back hits his chest hard, and I huff.
"My problem?" Josh yells. "You know what, forget it." He pushes me. "Talking to you is like banging my head against a wall."
"You're mistaken." I say, shaking my head. I rush towards the stairs, and ascend the stairs hastily. In my haste, I don't see Darcy exiting her room, and we collide into each other.
"Sorry!" I apologize, grabbing her arm to keep her from falling.
"It's okay." Darcy says, laughing. "What's the rush?"
"I'm not rushing." I say, walking towards my room. Sometimes, I feel as if Josh, and I decided to move in together too quickly.
"Mamma, I'm going to go to get ice cream." Darcy says, following me.
"Okay." I say, entering my room. Darcy is close on my heels.
"I'm not stupid. I know your relationship with Josh is heading downhill far too quickly." Darcy says, solemnly.
"No, we're just having some...issues." I say, hoping that she'll drop the subject.
"Issues...sure. You both are having major issues. Josh has started to push you. It's the start of abuse." Darcy says, taking a seat on the bed.
"No, it's not. Every relationship has it's ups and downs." I defend my relationship. "Now go, and get me an ice cream cone as well." Darcy looks at me, as if she's debating something. Finally, she nods her head and gets up.
"I'll be back soon." Darcy says, exiting my room. Sighing, I grab my brush from the dressing table. Absentmindedly, I pass it through my hair, smoothing out all of the knots. Josh has become quite rough lately. He's been pushing me a lot. Last week, he grabbed my hair in his fist. Darcy might be right. This could be the start of an abusive relationship, and I will not be a part of one. An abusive relationship never ends well. A woman should never let a man dominate over her. I miss Zahra, and him. I've been avoiding thinking about him, but I don't think I can do it any longer. I miss him, a lot. More than I used to. Maybe, it's because I got used to him again. Maybe, it's because I've stopped living in denial. Harry, and I used to fight, and argue. However, our arguments were different. They had a hint of affection, and love. When Josh and I fight, I feel nothing, but annoyance, and frustration. Josh wants to get married in this year, but I'm not so sure whether I want to marry him anymore. I don't think he's the right person. Who am I kidding? I just want one person. But, he left. I never saw Harry after the day Josh proposed to me. He just vanished. Zahra told me he said he's going home. But, when I went there, it was empty. I'm not quite sure why I accepted Josh's proposal. I think it was due to my nervousness or Darcy yelling for me to accept it. After that, my life has been a whirlwind. Since I had support from Josh, I took classes, and completed my degree in medicine. Now I work in a hospital as a cardiologist. Life is much better for me, and Darcy. We don't rely on Josh. In fact, Darcy and I have never had the need to ask him for anything. Life hasn't been easy for me, but now I am independent and I'm proud of myself. I just want to meet Harry, again. That's the only wish that I have left. Just once. I just want to meet him one more time.
