Isla's POV

When I entered, Daniel's eyes widened as he scanned my whole body. A light blush appeared on my cheeks as his gaze slowly returned back to my eyes.

"Isla," He whispered as if he wasn't really expecting me to be there.

"Daniel!" I run over and hug him. His body tensed up and I could tell he was surprised by my actions. I pull away to look in his electric hazel eyes. "I haven't seen you in so long," I whisper.

Realizing how close we were and how engaged he was, I cleared my throat and stepped away completely. I was slightly embarrassed but didn't regret anything. "How are you? How was school and New York?" I smile warmly at him.

He seemed to wake from a reverie and grins. "It was amazing, Isla. I have met so many people and had such a great time. Being back here is even better than that though," His tone became softer, more full of emotion. "I missed you."

When his eyes stared into mine, a rush of feelings washed over my body. "Me too," The air was getting too stiff, so I tried to make a lighten it. "So, are you a real doctor now? How is it treating you?"

"Great, Isla. I love helping people so much. This really is one of my biggest dreams come true." Whenever he said my name, it was as if nothing ever changed. Like he wasn't gone for several years or in a relationship.

"This is my first day as a fully qualified nurse," I say to him, being proud of myself. "I'm guessing you know that by now, since you were the one who requested me."

"I did because I couldn't believe you were still here. Are Jenna and Trevor still here too? We should get together and hang out like the good old days," My smile fell from my face when he mentioned the good old days. Too many empty promises.

I quickly caught myself and smiled brightly once again. I had to realize he had found someone else. "Actually, I live with Jenna. We share an apartment. Trevor doesn't live far from us and we still get together a lot. Now that you're back, you will definitely be invited to our get togethers."

An indistinguishable emotion flashed in his eyes, but he quickly covered it up. "I would love that Isla." He grinned his typical grin that made my heart melt over and over again. "I have to get to work now, but I have loved seeing you again. I really hope we can continue our friendship." He then hugged me tightly. "I'll send someone to instruct you on our rules, procedures and what exactly you'll be doing."

As he led me to the door, his hand was placed firmly on my lower back. Almost as if he couldn't get enough of me.

Get over yourself. You lost that chance years ago when he left. He obviously doesn't want you anymore.

I think back to my first ever date with Daniel. It had been prom two nights before and that was the night we confessed our feelings. Daniel had a surprise date planned for me and I was beyond psyched.
