Isla's POV

We walk to our table and the hostess leaves us with some menus. Zach and Trevor pull out the chairs for both me and Jenna, but Jax sits down and leaves Alyssa to grab her own seat.

We could all tell who were the gentlemen here.

"So should we do some ice breaker games? I would really like to know all the newcomers," Trevor breaks the silence and shows everyone his comedic side.

"Sure, we should go around and say our full names along with, I guess just one of your favorite things." Zach's voice is deep and smooth. It reminds me of honey slowly dripping off a very luxurious spoon.

Alyssa clears her throat. "I can go first. My name is Alyssa Rose Chrisman. My favorite TV show is Say Yes To the Dress." She smiles at Zach.

"I am Trevor Cunningham, and being my unique self, I have no middle name. My favorite person to tease is Jenna." Trevor gently nudges Jenna's shoulder, but Jenna full-force rams him back. "OW!"

We all laugh but Trevor scoots his chair a little farther from Jenna's.

"Jenna Mary-Lee Davis is what my parents decided to name me. My least favorite person on this table is Trevor."

"I thought you were supposed to say a favorite thing," I smirk and point out.

"Same difference. Tomato, tomato." Jenna scoffs but says a favorite anyway. "I really enjoy writing and illustrating."

Me and Zach look at each other simultaneously and then I speak. "Isla Caprice Woods. My parents chose really unique names. Caprice is a french name and it means 'whimsical.'" I shrug. "My favorite pastime is cooking and trying new dessert recipes."

It was true. My parents chose extremely unique names for each of their two kids. You don't really hear Isla very often and my older brother's name was Orion. I was close with both my parents and brother but haven't visited them recently.

"Zachary Ashe Galt. I really like to play soccer, I coach a JV team and also work at a specialty sports store." That made a lot of sense. Zach was tall and lean, with a slight runner's build. You could practically feel the abs from here.

Just then, for the first time in the whole conversation, Jax spoke up. "I'm Jax Charleston and I am from California and totally love to surf. I only moved here because my parents moved too."

"Did you want to stay close to your parents?" Alyssa asks Jax.

"Nah, I still live in their basement."

I could practically see into Alyssa's head. I knew exactly what she was thinking. If you weren't some devilishly handsome surfer boy, you would have nothing going for you.

We make some small talk as we look over the menus and order drinks. I learned a lot about Zach and I told him about myself. He seemed like an amazing guy, but my mind kept nagging that something wasn't right.

And he basically stared at Alyssa the whole time.

Every chance he got, he glanced at Alyssa. Eventually I confronted him.

"I know we are supposed to be on this date, but don't you really want to be with Alyssa?"

Zach turns his head to shift his focus from Alyssa to me.

"Hmm?"

I sigh in exasperation. "Exactly! You can't take your eyes off her! Why didn't you ask her on this date? You obviously have feelings for her." Zach's eyes widened.

"No! I mean, maybe but she can't like me. Alyssa already shot me down a year ago." His eyes were downcast, but I still saw the heartbreak in them. "And shouldn't you be offended that I would rather be with her?"
