Avery

I woke up to an empty house. Both of my parents had gone to work and I was left a lone. I poured myself some cereal and then scrolled through tumblr.

I really needed to find a job. We had been here three weeks and I really needed one. I was planning to go to college in the fall, if nothing else happened. My parents were both in the military and we moved, a lot. I had planned on going to school this past fall, but we were in the process of getting our house sold and buying a new one, plus packing everything up. It was stressful and I didn't have time to even think about school.

My phone rang and I answered it. It was my best friend, Kat, whom I had met on the Internet. It's funny how internet friends can be more loyal than friends you make in real life. She and I had finally met face to face last year and it had been the best day ever. We were trying to do it again this year, but since I had moved, she lived even farther away.

"Hey what's up?" She asked.

"Just scrolling through tumblr. You?"

"Sitting on my bed, doing nothing. I was bored so I thought I'd just call you."

"Well I'm glad you did." I said. "Did you get your tickets to the concert yet?"

"No, I think we're ordering them tonight though. I wish you could go."

"Same. Maybe I can enter some contest or something. Probably won't win anyway though."

"Aww don't say that. You never know. Maybe you will." She said.

"Even if I do, my parents won't let me go. They hate them and I can't change their mind. I've tried and it hasn't worked."

"Well maybe you can work something out. Have you found a job yet?"

"Nope, but I plan on going hunting for one today. Hopefully I can work at a music store. I saw a cool one downtown, I'll probably go there first."

"Cool. I still need to find one. If I can ever find time."

"If you didn't party so much, maybe you would find time." I said.

"I'm working on it." She said snickering and I knew that in reality, she wasn't.

Kat went to the University of Miami and she liked to have fun. She was a little more wild then I was about that sort of thing. I was planning on going to school with her, but it was too expensive and even if I did go, she would be wanting me to party with her all the time and I ain't about that life.

We talked some more about the boys and random stuff. Eventually we hung up and I went to get dressed and go job hunting. I really wanted the job at that music store, hopefully they had an opening.

I got into my car and drove downtown to the music store. It was such a cool place. Mainly vintage records and CDs but they had a wide selection of new stuff too.

A guy in skinny jeans and a Nirvana t-shirt, walked up to me and shook my hand.

"Hey my name's Carl. Welcome to The Sound. What can I help you with?"

"I'm looking for a job and I was wondering if you had any openings?"

"Yes we do actually. Just had a guy quit this morning. Come with me and I'll get you an application that you can fill out."

I followed the guy to the counter. He went behind it and pulled out a sheet of paper and handed it to me, along with a pen. I filled out all the information and handed the paper back to him.

"Okay, thanks. If you want, we can go in the back for an interview. I'm the manager here."

"Okay, sure."

We went into an office in the back and Carl interviewed me. He just asked me a lot of random questions about my life and background and made sure I didn't drink or do drugs, or at least not while I was working and I said no. We really seemed to hit off. We talked about music and I mentioned that 5SOS was my favorite band and he also said that he really liked their music.

"Well, Avery, I think you would be a really great fit for this store. Would you like the job?"

"Yes, I would love it." I said.

"Okay, you're hired then. You start tomorrow morning at 10."

"Wow, thank you so much." I said.

I walked out of the store and got into my car. I couldn't wait to tell my parents. Working at a music store was something I had always wanted to do and now I was finally getting the chance. I just hoped my parents would support it. They didn't really understand music like I did. They didn't realize how much I loved and appreciated it. I only hoped that one day they would.
