Michael
I sat on the bus, playing video games with Calum. We were on our way to Toronto. All I could think of was Avery and what was going on back at home for her. I was scared that Dale would come back, and this time he wouldn't be so careful.
"Michael, where are you?" Calum said.
"Oh sorry, man."
"Still worried about Avery?"
I nodded my head. He paused the game and I rubbed my eyes. I had barely slept.
"Dude, you can't keep going on like this." He said. "You're a mess."
"I'm so worried about her, Cal. Her whole family, they're in trouble. And there's nothing I can do about it."
I felt so helpless. I couldn't do anything about it, I couldn't help her. I needed to be with her, instead of being out here on the road.
"I need to go be with her." I said.
"She told you not to, though." Cal said.
"I know what she said. But I can't just sit here, while she's at home in torture. Not knowing if or when her so called father will come back and try something else on her and her family. All because of me."
Then I knew what I had to do, I knew exactly what I had to do. It was going to kill me, but I had to do it.
"Cal, can you guys do like a couple of shows without me? One at the least."
"Yeah, I guess so. But why?"
"I have to go see her. I know what I have to do."

Avery
I sat in my room, scrolling through my Facebook feed. Mom was working, so I was staying home with Dad. I still worked part time at the music store. Ragan was glad to have me back, apparently the new girl was totally emo, like her whole personality. Ragan couldn't even talk to the girl because she would just be rude.
I heard the doorbell ringing, so I walked downstairs to answer the door. I wasn't expecting anyone to come over, but sometimes people just came unannounced.
I opened the door and screamed. Michael was standing there. I jumped into his arms and he wrapped me a hug. I buried my face in his neck and yes there were tears.
He put me down and we walked inside the house.
"What are you doing here?" I asked. "Don't you have a show to do?"
"Yes, we have one tonight. But they said I could miss just this one."
"Well I'm glad. I've missed you so much." I said.
"I've missed you too and I've worried about you so much."
"Well, so far. We've been okay, but I'm still a little worried."
Something was wrong. He kept messing with his hair and rubbing his eyes. He had barely smiled, and he looked upset.
"Michael, are you okay?" I asked.
He looked at me and smiled sadly. He then took my hand in his and looked at me.
"Avery, I just don't think this is going to work."
"What?" I asked.
"If we stay together, who knows what he's going to do next. I mean your dad is already laying in bed because of me. What's next, you? Your mom? I can't live with knowing that I'm the reason your family is in danger."
"Michael, please don't do this. We can't let him win." I said, my voice cracked as tears began to form.
"We have to. I don't want him to win either, but it's been torcher for me, knowing that I'm the reason your family is in the condition it's in now. I can't do it."
I didn't know what to say. The tears came streaming down my face. He kissed me on the forehead and looked at me.
"Can we still be friends at least?" I asked.
"I don't know. I think it's best if we just stop communicating at all."
I nodded my head, even though I didn't agree. I knew where he was coming from, I understood it. But that didn't mean that I had to accept it.
"Bye Avery." He said.
"Michael,"
He turned and looked at me before he walked out the door.
"I love you." I said.
He didn't say anything. He just walked out the door and out of my life. Leaving me to do nothing but cry until I had no tears left.
