The Stacy family returned home and Gwen quietly retreated to her room. For some odd, twisted reason, the feeling she felt the most wasn't sadness or even disappointment, but anger. They had said the cancer was gone. They had lied to her. What kind of lunkhead doctors did they have working at the hospital?!
Upset, Gwen took a look around her room, her eyes catching sight of her half-written graduation speech, the rough draft of her application to Oxford, an old picture of her and Peter- all signs of the future she hoped to have before it was ripped out of her grasp.
Sighing, she thought of Peter. Shouldn't he know about this? Wouldn't it be right? Sure, they had broken up, but that didn't mean he didn't care about her. After all, wasn't it all because he wanted to protect her?
Realizing she really had nothing to lose, she dialed his number from memory.
Ring....ring.....ring....ring....ring.....ring..... "Hey this is Peter, sorry I can't get to the phone right now, leave a message if it's important."
Seriously? She was supposed to tell him her cancer was back and her days were limited over a voicemail message?
Tears trying to fight there way through, Gwen pressed the End Call button. She knew he could be out saving New York, but that wasn't why he hadn't anwsered. She wasn't stupid. She had tried calling Peter enough times this past week to know he wasn't going to respond to any of her calls. And the thought killed her inside.
She had been wrong. Gwen did have something to lose, so much of it.

And that was chapter two. How are you liking it? I know there's not much Gweter yet, but I'm getting there. And don't worry, Peter will be in one of the next couple chapters. ;)
