The next day, Peter made his way into Oscorp. Gwen had a few appointments, so he decided to spend the time without her trying to figure out the whole "Oscorp Mystery" (Yeah, he really couldn't think of any other name).
He made his way through the polished glass doors, and up to the front desk. "Hey, I'm here to see Mr. Osborn."
"Do you have an appointement?" The lady at the desk said in a bored tone, not even looking up from her computer.
"Um, well..." Peter said, rubbing the back of his neck aukwardly, "No..."
"Well I'm sorry sir, Mr. Osborn doesn't take time to meet with people without appointments," She said, still not looking up, "Afterall, he is very busy."
"Yes, you see, I realize that, but I know him so maybe he'll see me." Peter pleaded.
"Oh, so if I call him down he'll know who you are?" She asked.
Peter wanted to roll his eyes more than ever before but refrained himself. "Yes he should now who I am."
She rolled her eyes and grabbed a paper, "Fine, can I take a name?"
"Peter Parker."
The woman then suddenly looked up. She began looking at Peter, like she was debating something, before nodding. "I'll tell him you're here."
"Um...okay?" Peter said. Had Harry been expecting him? How had his name somehow managed to change her attitude? Ugh, he really hated complicated.
She then began talking into a speaker on her desk, "Mr. Osborn, Peter Parker is here to see you."
There was static, before Harry's voice came through, "Send him up to my office."
She nodded and turned to Peter, "Alright Mr. Parker. You will find Mr. Osborn's office on the top floor, to the left."
"Thanks," Peter said and headed into the elevator. He let out a breath he didn't know he was hoding, happy to be inside the elevator, on his way to se Harry, instead of fighing a endless battle with a snotty receptionist.
Before he knew it, the elevator stopped, and Peter stepped off. He quickly found Harry's office, and knocked.
"Come in." Peter opeed the door, and it didn't take him very long at all to realize Gwen had been correct- Harry did look very pale and sickly.
Harry leaned over to a speaker, "Thanks for sending him up, Felicia."
The lady from the front desk - Felicia - anwsered, "Pleasure's mine, Mr. Osborn"
Harry then faced Peter, "So Pete, I assume there's a reasom why you're here."
"Oh um..."
"Great what do I say? 'Oh hey Harry, I think you might be assaulting the citizens of New York, so I kind of need to investigate you. But hey, nothing person, we're still best buds! ' Um, no, I don't think so."
"We didn't talk much the other day, and I haven't seen you in a while. What have you been up to?"
He shrugged, "Nothing much in my personal life. But you know, Oscorp's growing more each day. We started making trips to Ravencroft Institiute, you know, to check the security. We're increasing our practice to different stores, medical centers, you get it."
Peter nodded, thinking, "Have good workers?"
"Real smooth, Parker. It's not obvious at all you're hinting towards Gwen," Peter thought saracstically.
Harry looked at him, before looking down and smirking, "Have a certain person on your mind do we, Pete?"
Peter stumbled for words, "Well..."
But Harry laughed, "Hey, man, it's fine. I mean, I understand you and Ms. Stacy are pretty close."
"How, how did you know about..."
Harry shook his head, "Pete, you and I are friends. I'm her boss. Not to mention I can read people pretty well."
Peter could only nod in response. What the heck was going on?!
"The cancer's a shame, though. She had so much life ahead of her." Harry said softly, yet still forcefully.
"She told you about the.....?" Peter inquired.
Harry shook his head, "Pete, once agin, I'm her boss. I know more than people think I do." Then he leaned forward and added, "I'm real sorry. I know she probably was, in a way, you're hope. I mean, it only takes one person right? It seems now the city needs that more than ever. Hope." He paused. "All these attacks on civilians. Guys in green suits? Odd stuff."
Peter wanted to punch Harry so badly it hurt. He almost seemed unaware of the effect his words had had on him. Gwen was his hope. How could he move on without her? "I need to go, Harry."
His "friend" nodded. "Of course, Pete. I'll see you later then."
As quickly as he could Peter exited Oscorp. Nothing that Harry said made any sense. How could he had known any of that?
But some things did add up. Harry's words echoed in Peter's mind:
"It seems now the city needs that more than ever. Hope. All these attacks on civilians. Guys in green suits? Odd stuff."
Just the way he had said the words and the small smirk on his face was enough to convince him.
Peter walked by a newspaper stand, all the papers recorcding new evidence of the fight between Spider-Man and "Green Goblin" that had taken place a few nights before.
The man in the green suit was now known as Green Goblin. Or, as Peter had just figured out, Harry Osborn.
What had he managed to do to himself for this to happen? What was he planning next?
Peter didn't want to be scared; he was Spiderman, he shouldn't be scared! But he couldn't help himself. He was now terrified.
