"Crap, no, no," Peter said and began dialing Gwen's number again. "Gwen, please anwser." But all he recieved was her voicemail. He had heard what she had said before hanging up, and how she wanted to stop fighting. He was scared of what she might do. Peter had never known Gwen to be suidical and do anything to purposely put herself in danger, but he couldn't guarentee anything either.
Just as Peter began calling her again, he heard a laugh behind him he was far too familiar with.
Peter turned around, breathing a sigh of relief he was still wearing his mask- not that it mattered with the Goblin. "Wow, in action twice in a day. I got to hand it you to, being very active aren't we?"
The Goblin only smirked, "Well, sometimes things come to my attention."
"Don't you have Oscorp to run?" Peter said, not being able to help himself. Then he added, "Harry."
The smirk disappeared. "Well, if we're calling each other by our own names, I guess that makes everything easier, Peter," The Goblin said, his mouth twisting when he said Peter's name.
Peter only shrugged. He looked the Goblin up and down, trying to find something physically weak about him, but he only appeared stronger, if that was possible. He even had his glider back, somehow. He felt relieved that the Goblin was here, fighting him, and not somewhere off with Gwen, unless she was already...
"No," Peter said outloud, without meaning to.
"What's that?" Harry asked. "Was the spider going crazy and talking to himself?"
"Nope, the only crazy one is you," Peter said, trying to keep his cool.
So close. The flash of light was so close it grazed his skin. Peter ducked out of the way and flung a web at his opponet. The Goblin soared out of the way and moved towards Peter, but just in time he managed to backflip out of the way.
"You know, Peter" Harry said and stopped a few feet away as he began to speak. "This whoe thing is pretty disappointing. Why did you have to become Spiderman?"
Peter shot another web at him, which wrapped just around his hand. "I think there are more important questions."Peter said as he pulled the web. He pushed the Goblin down slightly, but he managed to cut his web.
"So, how's Aunt May doing?"The Goblin asked Peter dodged another swing. Peter refused to anwser-he knew this was Harry's strategy, distracting your opponet with words as you came at them.
"Oh, and Uncle Ben?" Harry continued. "I heard about his death, but hey, he had it coming to him, didn't he?"
Peter clenched his fists. He had to tell himself over and over again to remain calm. Then the Goblin suddenly stopped talking, and a malicious smile appeared on his face. "Or Gwen Stacy."
Peter began to fume. He could hear a million voices in his head telling him to simply let the Goblin talk, afterall, that's all he was, a good, very good, talker. But the voices were overtaken by the large amount of anger beginning to course through Peter's body, and he couldn't help himself. He simply lunged at the Goblin.
He knew the news was talking about this fight, but he also knew the reporters wouldn't dare come close enough to see what was actually going on. He thrashed and threw punches and kicked and pulled. But the Goblin was just as good, if not better. When Peter threw a punch, the Goblin threw one back with just as much power.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, thr Goblin pulled out a knife, and struck Peter across the face. It cut staright through his mask, and could feel blood trickling down. "You can't save her, Peter," the Goblin said. "You are no hero."
But Peter could only heave, his strength weakening. "She's already gone, Peter, and there's nothing you can do. No, I made sure of that."
"What do you mean?" Peter said as he began to stagger back up. He knew he most likely wouldn't like the anwser, but he knew he would hate the suspense more.
"You know, for Midtown's two best students, you'd think you would have more sense," the Goblin said.
In response ton Peter's confused look, Harry continued, "Signs of cancer, Peter."
But now Peter was becoming even more upset, "No, Harry, you are not bringing Gwen's cancer into this-"
"She has no cancer!" Harry yelled, interuppting Peter.
"What?" Peter said. He now felt more confused than he had in his entire life. "Stop messing with me, okay? She went to a hospital-"
Harry snorted, cutting him off again.
And then Peter realized. He remembered the day he figured out Harry was the Green Goblin, and the conversation they had shared.
"We're increasing our practice to different stores, medical centers, you get it."
Medical Centers.
"You-"
"Basically tricked everybody, yes. Especially when you have your own set of dosctors working for you; they can make anything up."
"But why are you telling me this? You're saying the whole plan-"
"Oh, no," the Goblin laughed. "Don't you see? She doesn't have actual cancer, but we are injecting her on daily appointments, and when she meets her maximum of injections, it will kill her. And the beauty of it all is, no one suspects a thing."
Peter shot a web immedielty at the Goblin's chest, knocking him backwards. "And I won't let that happen."
Then the Goblin sneered, a horrible sneer that sent chills throughout Peter's entire body, "Except it will happen because Gwen's maximum injection, was scheduled to be today. The moment I arrived to be exact."
And that's when it all fell apart. Gwen was gone. She was truly, forever gone. Peter didn't even seem to feel it when the flash of green light burned into him and knocked him backwards. He wasn't aware of the cold laugh that escaped his former best friend. All he could make out was the one thought he had promised himself would never happen.
Gwen was dead.
And it was all because of him.
A/N
Okay, so if you read the last chapter then you know Gwen didn't go to her appointment so don't hate me for "killing" Gwen.
I need a response! Did you like the twist that was put on Gwen's cancer? Was it too cheesy? Was it really predictable? Was it just a stupid plot? Please tell me your honest opinion!
