Timeline: Nova has just recieved the news that she's commander of the alliance... and also some other news... i'll talk about how I got the inspiration for this fic at the end of the chapter. You don't have to listen to the song to understand the fic.
_______________________________________"Commander, I'm... not sure I understand. You do realize that due to the carbonite poisoning, it's very unlikely..."
"I understand that" I cut Dr.Oggurobb off. I know full well what's likely to come back in these results; I don't need anyone reminding me. "I still need to know"
Dr. Oggurobb nodded. "Ok, i'll go anaylize these samples. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes."
I nodded and waited for him to slither away. Pacing, I found myself gripped by the kind of fear that occurs when what you think is about to happen will come true. When you seek out the truth purely to prove yourself wrong. I scoffed, tired of waiting, and sat on one of the chairs in the reaserch center. I rested my hand on my stomach. Please...
I snapped my head up towards the sound of a heavy body being dragged against the floor. I stood up and walked towards the Dr, my heart in my throat. For a second, I considered turning tail and running. Maybe I could just pretend that everything was ok. But no. That wouldn't be fair to me, or to...
"I'm sorry commander. The results came back negative" in the pause where he took a breath, I felt my heart crumble. "You are no longer pregnant"
Did the galaxy even exist anymore? This was insane. The galaxy was never this cruel before. Maybe this was all just a dream. Maybe Valkorian was still messing with my mind. Maybe I really had died in the carbonite.
But dead people don't feel like they have pain for a heart.
"Thank you for your assistance" I told him, in a daze. "I'll be... in my office"
I walked, slowly, sluggishly, as I relived the memories of the past...
_______________________________________I sat on my bed, staring at the piece of plastic in my hand. It was bizarre that something so simple has told me the best news i've ever heard. Just a drop of blood can change so much.
A child. Corso and I are going to have a child! I placed my hand over my stomach, grinning from ear to ear, and felt tears of joy come to my eyes. I started laughing, laughing with joy. This is wonderful! A person to love, to cherish, our very own bundle of joy. A child to protect, to raise together with the one I loved most in the galaxy.
I smiled at the piece of plastic in my hands. Corso's birthday was in a couple days. What better time to tell him?
~le next morning~
"Morning Corso!" I said before pecking him on the lips. Smiling, I turned back to the stimcaf pot, making his favorite brew.
Corso sat down at the table in the kitchen area of my ship, looking at me with a raised eyebrow and slight smile. "Morning Captain. What's got you so happy?"
I handed him his stimcaf mug and sat next to him with my own. I shrugged, still having a hint of a smile. "Oh, you know, just your birthday coming up tommorro. I've got big plans"
"Captain you know that I don't want you to do anything..."
"Since when has that stopped her, farmboy?" Risha said with a yawn. "Good morning you two." Then she paused, looking puzzled, and looked at me like she expected something.
"What?" I asked, consfused.
"You didn't correct me for calling him farmboy"
"Oh, I didn't? Well don't call Corso farmboy. I'm the only one that gets to..."
