As i'm sure you can tell by the title, this isn't going to be the usual fanfiction. This is an AU fic where Nova and Corso are dating in high school... and Corso comes up with a way to ask her to prom.

I continued scribbling out the schedule for the shooting club when I heard the announcements buzz on. I needed to get this done so that we could get going again, and the announcements were always incredibly boring anyway. I only heard an announcement about prom and made a mental note to as Risha, Lana, Theron, and Corso if we wanted to go. Probably not. I continued to finalize the schedule until the teacher called out that we were to begin the class and sighed, getting out the materials for class.
~Time Skip~
"Hello, Corso" I said, walking up to him and giving him a kiss on the cheek before sitting next to him at the lunch table and unpacking my lunch.
Corso smiled and put his arm around my shoulder "Hello, Captain."
"Gosh, you lovebirds. Stop. I'm trying to eat." Risha rolled her eyes and made a gagging noise, causing the rest of us to laugh. We continued to make small talk in the loud lunchroom, talking about what we did over the break. Risha told a story about how she saw a peacock while on a cruise that had us practically rolling on the floor.
As the lunch went on, however, I began to notice that something was off. Theron and Lana kept sharing knowing glances with Corso, and Risha did the same, but with noticeably more of a smirk. The looks were so quick though that t could have been my imagination, so I just shrugged it off and reached into my lunch bag for the cookies I had packed that morning.
"What? Noooo come on!" I turned the bag upside down and shook it, hoping to shake out the missing treat, but nothing came out.
"Captain, what's wrong?" Corso turned to me, eyebrows furrowed in that cute way that means he's worried about me.
"I left my cookies at home. And I was really looking forward to them too." I frowned and put my lunch bag away. I obviously wasn't going to need it anymore.
"No cookies? Captain, that's a terrible thing. I am so sorry for your loss" Theron put his hand over his heart in an over-the-top display of grief.
"Oh stop it Theron. She can survive without cookies" Lana said, shooting him a glare.
I smiled as I felt an absence on my shoulders and saw Corso get up out of the corner of my eye. "She may be able to survive, but my captain should always be happy" He then walked off towards the vending machines, abruptly cutting off Lana and Theron's bickering and causing my face to go up a few degrees. I smiled sheepishly, happy that Corso cares enough to put effort into making me happy.
"Aww look at you Captain! You're making that tomato jealous"
"Shut up Risha..." "Hello there ladies"
We all groaned as my arch nemesis, Skavak, rudely slid his way into the seat that Corso had been occupying only seconds before. Not only does he constantly try to ruin my reputation and sabotage the shooting club, he's a narcissistic player who thinks that he can worm his way into my heart, attempting to woo me whenever Corso's not around. When he is, he's downright rude to my co-captain. You can imagine how well that goes over with me.
"Skavak, get out of here." I said, rolling my eyes and pulling out my phone so that I could ignore him better.
"Aww, come on Captain, that's no way to talk to a close friend"
"Don't call me that. You're not on my team and you're definitely not my friend. I couldn't care less about you."
Skavak scowled at my indifference, and to my immense displeasure, put his arm around me in much the same way Corso does before whispering in my ear.
