Jason's POV

1:28 AM

My phone clock displayed the same time for the nth time in supposedly 5 minutes. We were still at the Jones's house. All of us were partially drunk by now and everyone was having the time of their lives. Except me.

Nobody even noticed me sneaking out of the living room with a beer. I was feeling an emotional turmoil right now. Violet and Chaz were talking to each other as if they know each other since ages. I felt left out. She didn't even looked at me once after the truth and dare game as she is busy with Chaz. I feel jealous. But why? It's not like Vi is mine. Apart from that, I can't forget that Chaz is my friend too and I can't throw our friendship under bus for a girl who think of me just as her best friend.

My train of thoughts came to an abrupt halt when I felt movement beside me. From my peripheral vision, I noticed Candace sliding down next to me on front porch stairs. I kept my eyes trained ahead and pretended like I didn't notice her and took a swig of beer.

"Why don't you tell her?" she finally broke the silence after about 10 minutes and boy, did she beat around the bush?

"Tell who, what?" I played it dumb. She sighed and stopped me from taking another swig by placing her hand over mine.

"You are fooling yourself Jason, not me." it was my turn to sigh and she took it as her cue to continue. "I know you since childhood, we were together for quite some time too and it was enough for me to know you as the back of my hand. Things may have changed drastically but I still understand you like I used to and you don't need to be a genius to see that you love her and it's okay if you are hurting because of seeing her with someone else. It's okay if you want to kill Chaz right now even if he is your friend but it's not okay if you let yourself get hurt when you know that you can stop it."

I let her words sink in. silence blanketed us for what felt like forever.

"What if she say no? I will destroy our friendship and that's the last thing on my bucket list."

"She won't." she squeezed my hand. The surety in her eyes made me finally look at her.

"How can you be so sure?"

"It's in her eyes." I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "She looks at you the same way you look at her and you know exactly what it is."

She assured with a knowing smile making a small smile creep on my face. I nodded. She patted my hand and got up but not before saying something that filled me with determination.

"Think about it Jason before someone else does."

I stayed there for another half an hour, letting everything sink in. I got up and dusted my sweat pants. With a new found courage, I stepped in the house and surprisingly, I caught everybody's attention this time. Violet's eyes locked with mine and she smiled. Making my heart race. I smiled involuntarily and started walking towards her even without noticing.

My demeanour went 180 degree in just seconds when I noticed that Chaz had Violet's hand and he was dragging her somewhere. Violet noticed my eyes on their intervened hands but started following him where ever he was dragging her after throwing a nervous smile in my direction. But I didn't let him.

I grabbed her other hand quickly and pulled her towards me. Chaz's grip was loose, making her stumble straight into my chest. She looked like a deer caught in headlight.

I stole a glance towards Chaz. He looked at me with complete disbelief.

"I guess it's late now. We should leave." I looked down at Violet who mirrored the same expression as Chaz now. Disbelief.
