1 year later~~
I walked down the sidewalk, starring ahead of me, the clouds were gray, it did say it would be raining here when I flew in. My phone suddenly started ringing in my pocket. I quickly grab it, answering it. "Hey honey." I smile, reaching up and fixing my red beanie.
"Hey I was just calling to check up on you." Zack says. "Well isn't that nice, I'm fine." I say. "How was the flight?" He asks. "Good, slept through most of it." I mutter, looking down at my nails, pealing off some of my black nail polish, it was a habit of mine. My eyes suddenly catch the sparkling, diamond ring on my finger.
"That's good. Well tell Katie hi, and I'll let you go, have a ton of work to do." He mutters, sounding bored of it. "You're your own boss, you shouldn't be bored babe." I point out. "I know.. I just miss you." I laugh. "I've been gone for less than a day." I point out. "Too long." I bite my lip, blushing. "I'll talk to you later.." I say. "Okay. Bye, love you." He says. "Love you too." I hang up the phone as soon as Katie walks out of the coffee shop.
"Black coffee for you and a latte for me." Katie says, handing me my coffee with a disgusting face on. "For real? It's good." I shrug, taking a sip of it. Her eyes slowly follow my motion. "That's huge.." She says, narrowing her eyes. "Zack proposed?" She asks. "Yeah.. I was gonna get to telling you that." She smiles. "Wow.. I can't believe you're finally getting married!" She shakes her head, laughing. "Took me long enough." I mutter, both of us continuing to walk down the sidewalk.
"Feels good to be back in my home town." I whisper. "So when are you moving back here!" She spat, making me laugh. "Zack has a good thing going in Manhattan. He owns his own business and he's making a lot of money and he loves what he does." I shrug. "And you?" I bite my lip.
"Getting my dream job was far fetched. I should've known it was only a dream." I mutter. "So if you're not working, what are you doing?" She asks. "Well I've been trying to find some sort of job.. but have not had any luck. Although Zack lets me help him with his." I point out.
"So do you think you'll just end up being a stay at home wife?" She asks. I shrug. "And kids?" She asks. "Yeah probably." She nods, looking like she was holding back her opinion. "What?!" I ask, throwing my hand up. "Nothing.. I just remember what you use to tell me what you wanted in life- and being a stay at home wife and even maybe mother wasn't one of those." She says.
"Well you should know that my life has never went the way I want it." I whisper, looking down as we walked. "So that's it? You're just going to give up on what you've always wanted for yourself?" She asks. "Look, it's not easy Katie! My life is reality, I'm not like Zack or you!" I spat. "I've never had it easy and quite frankly a life with Zack and being a mother or whatever is probably the best I'll ever have!" I spat.
"Fine. You're right. Life is hard and not everyone gets what they want." She nods. "Sorry I just- I'm happy Katie, although I don't have the life I wanted, I have a life that's just as best." She smiles. "I'm happy for you. Zacks a good guy."
