Something about Noah put me off, but I wasn't sure what about him it was. Maybe it was the way he kept staring at me, or the way it seemed like he was looking right through me. Nothing seemed right about him, but I figured it was just my imagination.
I was still confused why he wanted me to go with him out of all the other people who could've helped him. If anything, I would be the least amount of help since I probably couldn't carry much. I had a feeling he knew this but didn't care, he seemed too intelligent to overlook it.
"So Rory, I didn't catch your full name," Noah said when we reached the elevator.
"Rory Brier Rose," I told him in a quiet voice. Noah looks like he's thinking about something before he looks at me.
"Noah Noble," he told me his full name as well. I nodded because I didn't know what else to say. "How do you know Cal, again?"
"Oh, he's just a family friend." I wanted to stop, but he kept looking at me like he expected more of an answer. "I guess his parents knew mine, so we were together a lot when we were younger." I thought up a lie while I talked.
"They knew? Where are they now?" I wanted to curse because we was somehow managing to pick up every word I gave to him and analyze it.
"My parents are dead."
"I'm sorry," He apologized, but he didn't seem all that caring. "Mine are no longer around either." I apologized to him as well, and then we fell silent. Just standing near him was awkward, so the silence made it all that much worse.
He wasn't looking at me like he usually was, so I peaked at him out of the corner of my eye. His dark eyes always seemed focused on something and had a knowing look to them, which made him look arrogant in my eyes. He had a strong jaw structure where I could see a slight blond hair that looked like it was trying to grow back.
When we got off the elevator, Noah started walking fast like Cal did this morning. He gave a smile to the lady behind the front desk who waved back. I had to walk extra fast to make sure I could keep up with him. I didn't want to lose him like I had lost Nick.
The streets were significantly less crowded than this morning, the cars had their chance to drive a lot faster. I was walking so fast I didn't pay attention to where I was going, I was just watching Noah's feet. So I was quite surprised when his large hands made their way to my chest to stop me from moving any further. I stopped suddenly and my eyes got wide when a car zoomed passed us. I looked up at Noah who looked a little annoyed, but then proceeded to cross the street.
The shop actually wasn't very far at all. I was caught off guard when Noah stopped in front of the door to the shop, because he had arrived there so quickly. My mouth watered at the scent of the shop. Noah told me in a bossy tone that I can just sit and wait while he told the large order. I did as he said and looked out the window at the people passing by.
"Rory?" I heard a familiar accented voice that made me jump and turn around. I almost groaned out loud when I saw Matthew standing there with a large smile on his face. He was wearing a beanie again, but this time it was a different color. He was also carrying a guitar case; I became concerned when he set it down next to the table I was sitting out.
"Matthew..." I responded in a warily voice. His grin got wider.
"You remembered my name." His voice was almost suggestive, like he was trying to point something out.
"And you remember mine..."
"Could never forget a name as lovely as yours, love." He got comfortable in the booth across from mine, looking me up and down. "You look dashing today, what's the occasion? Were you looking for me, perhaps?"
