Cal was asleep for most of the day. I assumed it was okay since he had already ate. I was in the living room reading while panicking at the same time. This wasn't like Stephanie who lived hours away. I could avoid her. But if Cal woke up and remembered, I wouldn't know how to react. Maybe I could pretend it never happened, so he thinks he dreamed it.
Nothing could take my mind off it, and I was disappointed to hear the rain had let up. I opened the blinds and was greeted by the bright sun shining. Of course it was sunny now.
I sat there on the couch, debating my decisions before a sound rung throughout the house. It was dead silent, so it scared me. I jumped up before I realized it was my phone. I kept forgetting I had one, and was still not used to using regularly. I picked it up and looked to see who was calling. The name "Matthew" appeared on the screen. I reluctantly picked up.
"How did you get my number?"
"Hello there, love! I've missed you, too," he greeted. I could hear the cheeky smile in his voice. "And I got it while you were picking up that sandwich so long ago. You had your phone out, and for some reason had no lock on it. It's nice knowing you have nothing to hide."
"If you've had my number this entire time, why are you just now calling?"
"Oh, missing me, are we? Well, I actually am a really busy fellow."
"I am not missing you-"
"It's okay, you don't have to hide it. And I know you want to see me as much as I want to see you, so how about we meet up."
"It's raining."
"Not anymore, love. In fact, it just stopped. Forecast shows no rain for the rest of the day, how convenient."
"I do not want to see you-"
"Oh please? I'm so bored!" Matthew's voice was whiny. I let out a sigh before hanging up. I go to the kitchen to try and find myself something to eat, but then realize there's nothing around but pies. I groaned when I disciplined myself from eating another slice of pie. I thought back to a few days ago when I went with Cal to a grocery store not far off. Maybe I could walk down there, buy some groceries, then quickly walk back here before he notices.
I pondered over this, then decided to look for his wallet. I felt a bit guilty when I took his card out of the wallet. I just shook the bad thoughts away and considered he might be grateful for me buying groceries instead. I was buying them for him anyways.
I grabbed a light jacket and my phone before heading out the door. I left it unlocked, hoping no one would try and break in. I had no other way to get back in if I didn't lock it. When I got outside, I felt relieved to feel the cold wind against my face. There were a lot of people walking on the streets. I had to try and push my way through people who didn't see me.
When I broke through the large crowd, I had to figure out how to get to the small market from here. I just started walking and pulled my jacket closer to me. I kept my hand in my pocket, holding on to the card. I slowed my walk when the scent of sandwiches reached me. I took a deep breath and turned towards where the smell was coming from.
I saw a small sub shop across the street. The wind kept blowing the scent towards me, so I was quickly allured. I placed my hand over my stomach when I remembered I hadn't ate anything. I made a rash decision and decided to cross the street to grab a bite.
I became flushed with warm air as soon as I opened the door. It wasn't very crowded, probably because it was a tiny shop that didn't look to appease many people. But it smelled nice and had a home-like feeling to it, so I loved it. I got into the very short line and looked above at the menu.
