My eyes widened when I recognized where we were at. We were far from the city. I recognized the edge of the forest that Cal had first picked me up from.
"Cal..." He didn't say anything. He just got out the car and slammed the door shut. I followed after him.
"Come on," he said and walked into the forest. I hurried after him as we broke into the woods.
"What are we doing here?"
"What do you think we're doing?" He responded sarcastically.
"If I knew, I wouldn't have asked."
"We're visiting your Grandmother." I stopped abruptly, so he slowed to a stop as well.
"What? Why?" He walked back towards me.
"It was a sudden decision after what you told me..." I raised an eyebrow.
"I don't think that I can..." He rolled his eyes and pulled on my arm so I would walk forward.
"Stop being so dramatic. You need answers," he told me.
"Do I really need them?"
"Yes."
"But-"
"Yes." He raised an eyebrow at me after interrupting me. I glared at him and let him pull me through the forest.
"Do you even know where we're going?" I said grumpily. He laughed a bit.
"Kind of."
"What do you mean?"
"I know how to get to the apple trees, but after that you'll have to lead the way."
"You just assumed that I would lead you to my Grandmother?" He nodded confidently.
"Don't have many more options."
"I would-"
"Like what? Sitting there or leading me the wrong way? We'll be out here for hours. The sooner we get there, the sooner we can leave." I groaned and realized he was right. I reluctantly walked beside him until I saw a familiar setting.
It was still pretty early in the day. I looked up to see some of the taller trees hanging over us. It was like a dream to see streams of light here and there pouring in through the leaves. I only snap back to reality when Cal flicked my nose. He looked at me expectantly and spread his arms out.
"We're here." I nodded and walked over to one of the trees.
"Yeah, I know," I said quietly. I reach up into on of the trees and grab and apple off of it. "It just feels like it's been years since we've been here." Cal opened his mouth like he was going to say something. "If you say that stupid quote one more time, I'll unhinge your jaw." He narrowed his eyes at me.
"Rude." I smiled innocently before biting into the apple. "Lead the way, Rory." I held a finger up to him.
"Don't rush me." He groaned.
"Come on, you didn't want to be here in the first place!"
"I didn't want to be at my Grandmother's. This is our place, and I missed it." I smiled as I took a whiff of the forest scent. "Why did you used to come out here anyways." He smiled down at his shoes, but it didn't look genuine.
"My therapist suggested that getting out of the city would help with my insomnia. She told me there was supposed to be a hiking trail in the forest, but I never did find it. I'll be honest, the only reason I came back was because you were here." I blushed and bit into my apple again.
