Series Three, Episode Three - The Entrusted (August 16, 2013)
Another day passes, and Laurence is again abused by Tony and his allies. Concerned, Leah approaches her caretaker the next morning. Attempting to ask of the nightly incidents; Tony repeatedly dodges the questions, choosing instead to hurry the children to school. Despite seeming to follow her brother into class, Leah sneaks off into the city, troubling civilians with talk of her “father’s” child abuse. As a woman overhears, Leah is dragged to the local police station; the police only worried further by her age. Questioning her, Officer Dan Clarke asks of her relation to the man – leading to great horror on the faces of the policemen. Quickly, the officers hurry to Tony’s home, to find only him there. Despite many questions, the man calmly shows them Laurence, who denies all of Leah’s claims. That night, the boy breaks down in his sister’s arms – a conversation which prompts the twins to run away from him.
Utilising an immense plan, Juan, Maya and Mina venture to Torquebit’s military operations centre. Following conversation and reasoning for the attempt, the three proceed to sneak in through a trash chute, much to Mina’s dismay. Upon their entry, prisoners repeatedly show coldness to them for their status as outsiders, leading to an argument between one and Juan. Suddenly, an alert of intrusion locks the centre down. Fearful, Juan sends the girls on a “safer” path to high security, as he sneaks through specialised fire escape tunnels. Talking to himself again, Juan expresses disbelief that he is still doing things “like a secret agent”. While the girls face lasers, the Bandana Man overcomes cameras and intruder detecting mechanisms. As they speak of a soon-escape, Maya and Mina find themselves in the security room. Relieved, they enjoy water and rest while watching the monitors, only to see Juan with guards, in chains.
Revealing his scars and the Mother’s words to Vander, the man comforts his young friend – telling Darcy that she will pay for her actions. Leaving the child home alone that night, Vander takes a walk to a local park, cage in hand – releasing his phoenix upon his arrival. The Mother’s sudden appearance startles him, prompting an awkward introduction, too including the reveal that Vander knew of her long-time knowledge that he was her robber. The two talk as if they were old friends, discussing his lack of the crystal – telling her that he passed it on “just under three years ago”. Angry, her magic takes control, leaving the phoenix to defend Vander – a move which drives The Mother to vanish. Quickly, he runs home to check on Darcy. Using phoenix tears to heal the scars, Darcy asks how magic is back, to which he replies “a Power.” Vander explains the Reclamation and his plan more, saying “The Entrusted must hold the Lockaway Crystal” – as the young teen sleeps in his arms.
Having spent an entire night and day on a park bench, Leah and Laurence venture the city streets under night’s shadow, attempting to formulate a second step to their plan. In an internet café, the twins are offered free service after speaking of their desperation. Researching, Laurence uncovers their family tree online, and they discuss their uncle Tristan. The waitress interrupts, asking more of him, though both are reluctant to share. After a quick search, she shows them Tristan’s obituary, as it begins to rain. Left hopeless, the two are told by her of Maya, and they are directed to Novus Somnium. In the street, Laurence’s pain becomes unbearable. After a heartfelt talk, the boy compels her to find Maya alone. She leaves, turning back for a moment; sad.
Leaving the house again for errands a night later; Vander returns to tell Darcy of his church visit. Proclaiming himself a child of Temmut, his god, Vander angers Darcy by commanding him that only they can “bring The Entrusted into the Old World”. A fight ensues; Vander storming off again after telling the child of the Reclamation’s plan to return the world to an older time. Alone, Darcy is again approached by a spiteful Mother. The two argue about his job, and Darcy tells that he will not serve her, prompting her to say “You want me dead, and they want my crystal. I thought I would have just one friend in you”, before disappearing. Despite feeling guilty, Darcy’s face turns to shock as Vander walks in with an unconscious Laurence in his arms, saying “Darcy, our luck. I’ve found The Entrusted.”
After a violent exchange of words with the guards, Juan is left alone with Torquebit’s military chief. The two converse harshly, as the man reveals himself as Mark Lewis, a man who Juan had bullied as a child. More conversation ensues, discussing the many years past, and Juan’s crime of sneaking into the centre. Mark reveals himself as the country’s true leader, saying that the militia control all –as Juan suddenly uses a non-violent knockout technique on him. In an escape manoeuvre, Juan makes his way quickly out to phone Maya – only for her, Mina and Yuen to emerge from the bushes, safe. Returning to Underground T-19, the group are heralded as heroes, with Juan involuntarily elected as the tunnel’s leader. Yuen gives a speech with Lulu. The man tells of his plan to smuggle them to Aeternam, which is met with applause. That night, Tean Juan, Yuen and Lulu watch the new – horrified, as Mark reveals he will personally come after Juan Carlone.
Waking to find Leah and Laurence gone, Sophia rushes to inform Tony. The event sending him on the warpath; the women follow him down into the basement. Talking of losing “The End Goal” and his “sibling spare”; Julie refers to him directly as “The Entrusted” – checking if it is only he who can unlock “The Disorder”. Tony corrects her, revealing that anyone who has drank The Entrusted’s tears can use it; too angry that their abuse never made him cry in front of them. Both women bring up the skulls once more, enquiring into his ‘Reclamation’, that he claims them the symbol of. Angry again, Tony malevolently claims that his goal to “turn back time” will stretch far, bringing “mythology to life” – Julie horrified when he slams the door, shouting that all forms of government will fall, including her sister.
