*Trinity's PoV*

I woke early the next morning. Not because of excitement, as you would expect, but because of anxiousness. Today was the day. It was my 18th birthday.

Rolling out of bed quietly, I pulled on a dressing-gown and tip-toed down the stairs quietly, as not to wake Louis. However, apparently my efforts were pointless, as he was standing at the cooker in the kitchen when I walked in.

"Morning, Sleeping Beauty," He grinned as he flip the eggs in the pan, "What brings the birthday girl downstairs so early?"

"Oh, I'm just excited," I lied nervously, "And why exactly are you up at 7:30am, may I ask?"

He looked at me over his shoulder, his blue eyes shining from underneath his dark lashes.

"I thought I'd cook the birthday girl some breakfast, if that's alright with you," he replied, plopping the eggs onto a plate before throwing some bacon into the pan in its place.

I bit my lip to avoid saying something sarcastic, about how it might have been a better option to stay away from the kitchen and let me make breakfast myself, and instead wandered over to him and wrapped my arms around his waist, placing my head on his broad shoulder.

I saw his cheeks move, which told me he was smiling.

"So, what's the plan for today?" I asked him, swaying him back and forth with me.

"Oh," he said, as if suddenly remembering something, "Did I mention you've a party later? Because you do. Just a small party, a few friends, nothing special, I promise."

My eyes shot wide open. He hadn't mentioned anything about a party before. For god's sake, I had no-one to invite, and excuse me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a party is much fun without any people.

"I talked to your friends, Sinéad and Eva," he continued, "They got a few people together, and they're coming to bring you shopping for something to wear in a while."

When he was finished throwing this information at me, he put the bacon on the plate beside the eggs and added a tomato and two sausages from the grill. He led me to the table and we sat down, beginning to eat.

I was silent, thinking about everything; the party tonight, and, more importantly, what was expected to happen between Louis and I after the party.

"What's got you so quiet?" Louis inquired, eyebrow raised.

I gave him my best reassuring smile.

"Oh nothing, just thinking about the party, is all," I told him. Well, it wasn't exactly a lie, was it?

He gave me a look, a sparkling glint of disbelief in his eye, but he didn't question it. He simply continued eating, letting me stay silent.

I ate quickly, my hunger getting the better of me. I looked up from my plate for the frst time since Louis had asked me what was bothering me and was met with a pair of piercing blue eyes that were settled on me.

"I'm happy, you know that?" he smiled, as if surprised by this fact, "And you know that if there's anything you're worried about, you can talk to me, yeah? Say.... if you're having any doubts or apprehensions, or anything like that?"

I could tell by the look he was giving me that he knew exactly what I was thinking about. I gave him a shy smile as I finished off the last of my breakfast.

"No, no," I answered, "No doubts or apprehensions, I'm fine."

I gave him one last smile before standing up and taking my plate over to the dishwasher. I was walking past the table to go back to my room when I felt a light grasp on my wrist and Louis pulled me down towards him. He kissed me gently, before bringing his face away from me only slightly.

"Happy Birthday, T," he whispered, his breath puffing out over my tingling lips, and my heart fluttered at his nickname for me. I hated nicknames, but the way it rolled off his tongue made it sound so much more appealing.

"Thanks, Lou," I replied, pecking his nose before walking upstairs to get ready for my shopping day with the girls.

"How about this one?" Sinéad asked, pulling a knee length navy dress from the rail.

I shook my head. I wanted something conservative enough, but  also wanted to look good for Louis, which meant, perhaps, wearing something that showed a little skin.

"What about this?" Eva choked out, trying not to laugh as she pulled a bandeau from the rail that was covered in metal studs. I couldn't help but grin as I shook my head.

My eyes trailed to where a red dress stood out on the rail. I took the hanger off the rack and held it up to my body. It was mid-thigh length, with triangular cutouts either side of the waist. It was strapless, with a sweetheart neckline. Diamonds were studded along the neckline, making it dressy, but not overly so.

I turned around so the others could see it and they gave me a nod of approval. Happy that I had found something in less than half an hour, I practically skipped to the checkout, where I made my purchase, before I went to a café with the girls.

******

"Holy shit, Trinity!" Eva cursed when I presented my finished outfit to them, in Sinéad's house. I had text Louis letting him know where I was, and he assured me that it was fine.

I was dressed in my red dress, a pair of Sinéad's black wedge heels, a charm bracelet and a diamond chain necklace, with a black and red clutch. I had foundation and blush on, as well as mascara, some winged eyeliner and lipstick, courtesy of Sinéad.

Eva was left to the hair and she slicked it back into a tight high-ponytail, straightening it and using hairspray to keep it in place. I couldn't believe how different I looked when I saw myself in the mirror. I looked so much older than I normally did, which wasn't a bad thing.

We laughed as we walked down to the car, and sang songs with the windows down on the way back to Louis' house. By the time I got there, I had banished all nerves and was genuinely happy. We walked slowly up to the house, not wanting to fall over in our heels, and I pushed open the door without knocking, for the first time.

The scene that greeted me when I opened the door was both amazing and terrifying.

'Small party' my pale English ass.
