***Next Day
***Bea's POVWednesday morning was a little less than perfect. Pouring rain made getting gas before school a pain in the butt.
I replaced the gas pump and the guy in the car next to me spun his wheels before taking off. It splashed a dirty, oily puddle on my jeans all the way up to my knees.
Dang it! They're ruined.
I got in my car and tried to calm myself before starting the car.
I had to drive slower because of the slick roads. And that meant I didn't have time to even attempt to dry my pants under the restroom dryer.
Fantastic.
I ran down the hall to my English class.
Everyone was in their seats as the second bell rang, but Ms. Workman wasn't at her desk yet.
I rushed for this?
I sat with my feet planted on the desk's legs in front of me so my pants could start to dry.
Victor walked over to Harry but he ignored him and stood right by my desk.
Oh great.
"You know, you can use the restroom," he chuckled. "You don't have to piss yourself."
"Yeah, thanks, Victor," I rolled my eyes. "So when are you gonna be potty trained?"
It was the best I could come up with since I was frazzled.
The people in the desks closest to me only heard since I really didn't speak in a loud volume.
"Watch yourself, sweetie," Victor smirked, crossing his arms. "I know a lot more than you think."
"Go sit down, Vic."
Did Harry just stick up for me?
That solidified he didn't brag to his friends.
Just as I was about to turn around to thank Harry, Ms. Workman walked in and started class.
Well of course.***
Class ended. As I stood up, Harry tapped my shoulder and I turned to face him.
"What happened, Bea?" Harry glanced down at my pant legs.
"I was at the gas station and the car next to me splashed me."
Harry looked awkward for a moment and I considered walking away.
"Um, I have a clean pair of sweatpants," he chuckled. "I-if it's not weird."
"Of course it's weird," I giggled, "but my legs are already starting to shiver. So I will gladly accept your offer."
"Okay, they're in my locker," he flicked his head to the door. "Let's go."
This walk is gonna be so awkward.
"Here, Bea," Harry gave me a pair of black sweatpants with a white stripe on the side of each leg. "They might be big, but at least they're dry."
"Thank you, Harry," I smiled as I took them. "I'm gonna change before Chem."***
I threw away my favorite pair of jeans and rushed to Chem, all the while holding onto the triple-rolled up waistband for dear life.
I sat on my assigned stool just before the tardy bell rang and I caught Harry's eye. He gave me a soft smile and my embarrassed smile greeted him back.
