CLAIRE'S POV
I wiped by eyes before going to Olivia. I don't know why, it's not like she understands it. "Hey, livvy. Shh it's okay", spoke gently as I picked her up. Olivia continued to wail angrily due to outburst from her parents. After a few minutes of rocking her gently, the crying stopped and she fell back to sleep. I sighed and began to silently weep. I've know Owen for a long time. I know we haven't always been friends but...My thoughts were interrupted by a light tapping on the door. "One second", I called out. I wiped my eyes and blinked away the tears. I put on my best 'I'm Fine' face and opened the door.
"Hey, Claire", Karen's perky voice said as she entered with Everett.
"Hi guys", my voice was quieter than normal. "Everett wanted to come with me to talk about the wedding plans", Karen smiled.
"Oh yeah, I nearly forgot about that", I mumbled.
" 'You alright, C?", E asked a little concerned.
"Yeah. I'm just tired that's all", I replied.Karen pulled me to couch and placed a book on the coffee table. It was neatly decorated with the words, Grady-Dearing Wedding. The writing was loopy and looked like it had been written in one of Gray's gold glitter gel pens. Although the front of the book looked neat and tidy; there were tabs of all sorts of colours and sizes poking out the sides. I know that Karen probably tried her best to make it as neat as possible for me. Don't get me wrong Karen is organised but she's not tidy.
"Gray tried to help make it neater but...", she trailed before grabbing three champagne glasses. At first I was confused then I realised that Everett just so happened to have a champagne bottle in his hand.
"I can't believe it. Our little Claire is getting married", Everett mused. I rolled my and took a sip of my drink.
"I can't have a lot, Olivia's next store", I sighed.
"Why so glum C?!? We're here to have a laugh", E smiled. I did my best to smile hoping they would buy it.Karen took me through the book page by page. It was beautiful. There was even an index. I guessed that was Gray's idea to put that in. Even though Karen said she invited more people, I was expecting loads but it was only a few people mainly for Owen. My extra guests were just extended family but Owen had a few navy friends.
"Now all I need is something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue", I giggled due to my alcohol consumption.
"Here's something old", E said pulling something out of his pocket. I gasped. It was a tattered plaited leather bracelet. It was our old friendship bracelet from elementary. I can't believe he still had it. I had one hand over my mouth whilst Everett tied the bracelet around my other wrist.
"I guess this is something new and borrowed", Karen smiled as she handed me a perfectly wrapped package. How did I not notice it¿!? Karen looked at me with eager eyes, urging me to open it. I slowly untied the pink ribbon before lifting the lip off the box. It was gorgeous, there was small silver tiara with diamond and the earrings Karen had worn on her wedding day. I said a few times how much I loved the earrings, but I can't believe she remembered for this long. "Oh my gosh, thank you both so much", I gasped.Everett pulled us all in for a hug. "Now all I need is something blue", I smiled as E released us from his grip. "I thought Owen, would of given that to you by now?", Karen questioned. I furrowed my eyebrow ever so slightly. It soon dawned on me to why. My bottle lip began to quiver and I couldn't hold it in. I burst into tears. Through my blurry eyes I could see Karen and Everett exchange looks. "Claire, sweetie. What's wrong?", Karen asked gently. "O..Ow...Owen", I struggled out in between whimpers. "Calm down, then tell us", E spoke sympathetically. I was taking deep breaths trying to calm myself down. "We had another argument", I sighed.
Just then Olivia started crying. "I'll get her", Everett said getting up. He reentered and place Olivia on the floor pen with her toys. "That's what married couples do. They have arguments", Karen continued to speak softly as she knew it was a delicate matter. "I... I'm not sure if he stills want get married and I'm not sure if...if I do too", my voice was almost a whisper. "Claire, trust me. I guarantee he does. I just met him and I can tell he loves you so, so much", Everett stressed. "Tell us about when you first met him. It will make you feel better", he continued. I sighed and began.
Mr Masrani had hired every individual himself with no assistance. Simon was looking forward for the opening. He decided to organise a mixer for the staff. I was not particularly looking forwards to it, but I had to go, it was not optional. I put on a black dress and heels. I didn't want to look too casual but at the same time I didn't want to look too professional. I straighten my hair and applied my make up.
All the staff were living on the main temporarily so we got the boat to the island mixer. I got on the boat stood near the back, not wanting to get involved. However this guy called Lowery, came up to me and started rambling on and on. I felt bad that I was being so blunt; so I began to show some interest as sympathy. The boat ride would take about 30 minutes and Lowery was talking to me for a good 15 before wandering off. I thought I was free until someone else came up beside. Owen. He was wearing black jeans, a white t-shirt and a black leather jacket. Hey, was the first thing he said to me. We talked for a while and he told me how he hasn't definitely got the job but has high hopes. Owen was so modest. I told him a bit about myself and he made me laugh.
Thinking about it now, it sounds extremely cheesy and not at all like Owen. I just guess he was trying his best to impress me.
Owen took me to the front of the boat and surprisingly there was no one there. I just assumed that they were probably glued to the onboard bar. Don't get me wrong I did like Owen but I really didn't want him to try anything. I just wanted to keep my relationship as professional as possible. We talked a bit more about how Owen loves nature and being outside. He talked about the sunset and how he loved the feel of the wind in his face. Owen lent up against the railings and held his arms out like in the titanic. I told him that he was crazy. He kept begging me to try it with him. I immediately refused but after a while he managed to convince me.
I'm not sure what he said, I think it was...
Anyways, I said I agree that the wind in your face does make you feel more alive. Owen chuckled and just had to gloat.
"I told you so, he smirked. I remember that bit because that's when he began being his normal cocky self", I smiled to myself. Karen had tears in her eyes as if I had just told her some Romeo and Juliet tale. "I wonder what he said to make you lean against the rails", E chuckled softly, " 'cause you hate boats, even since we were joking around and I pushed you over board", he smirked at the memory. "That was not funny", I frowned. "Trust me Claire, it was", Karen giggled. That's it. That's what he said to me. Both Karen and Everett were staring at me again. Something had click and they could tell.
"He said. Trust me Claire", I spoke quietly.A/N: Hey guys another update...Yay!! I'm writing a high school Clawen but I'm making the chapters long.
