Fictional Reality

OWEN POV

I left the gym and headed back upstairs. Most people see arguments right before weddings as a sign of divorce. Claire and I are like two bickering children. It really is a love hate relationship. It's definitely not a sign of divorce. It just goes to show how thin the line between love and hate is.

I decided to take the stairs, round the back of the hotel. There would be less chance of me bumping into the guests that Karen invited. I half regretted my decision to take the stairs, seeing as my room was on the top floor. It was not my best idea.

I wasn't even half way yet and I was already struggling. I would have to get the elevator at the next level. I slowly pushed the door open. I didn't know what floor I was on; so for all I know it could be the floor where all the guests are staying.

I had to hold in my laughter as I thought about what I was doing. It was both shady and hilarious. A grown a$$ man, sneaking around a hotel, trying not to bump into one of his wedding guests. It was actually so childish....I wonder if Claire knows that she's marrying a 6 year old.

I cautiously poked my head out from behind the door to check if anyone was on the floor. I was just about to step out, when I heard Karen's voice. I pulled the door back, but left enough room for me to see who she was with. I took a sharp breath in and chewed my cheek. It was Everett.

I don't know what it is, but there's something about him; that just gets under my skin. I stayed perfectly quiet as I tried to eavesdrop on their conversation.

"You're sure Claire is okay?", Everett's voice was loud and clear. I guess it's just second nature to someone with such an overinflated ego. Although he did seem to care about Claire, so that makes me not completely hate him.

"Yeah, she'll be fine", Karen's voice was a lot quieter and softer than Everett's. Despite the quietness of Karen's voice; understanding her half of the conversation was quite easy. I suppose the way she was angled helped a lot. I was able to lip read if I couldn't quite hear her; as she standing towards the metal door I was hiding behind.

"Our Mom has Olivia. Claire is by herself, it gives her a chance to cool off. Owen is cooling off...probably in the gym. Both of them are probably over stressing out about the wedding", Karen continued.

"Okay, so everything will be fine and back to normal for dinner", Everett replied before getting his keycard out of his pocket. Everett and Karen said goodbye to each other. Karen headed back the way she came and Everett's door clicked shut.

It was now safe for me to come out. I headed down the corridor to the elevator. As the hotel was so big, there had to be more than one elevator per floor. So I didn't have to use the same one as Karen. I pressed the arrow pointing upwards and it lit up. I stared at my shoelaces for a few seconds whilst I waited. The elevator dinged and doors slid open.
I froze for a second as Claire stood alone in the metal box. Silence. I stepped in a stood next to her trying to stay calm. See, truth be told. I haven't actually thought of my apology. I pressed the button for the door to close. The tension between us was so thick, you could probably cut it with a knife.

I stole a glance at Claire. I could tell that she was purposely looking everywhere else in the elevator but me. I took a deep breath and pulled the emergency stop toggle. The lift steadily came to a halt and the light above the door flashed a royal blue colour. Claire stared at me with wide eyes. Any other time I would of laughed but this was serious. The look on her face was absolutely priceless.

"Claire. I'm really sorry, I shouldn't of said what I said. I know I can't take my words back but I truly regret it", I spoke gently as I looked at her crystal orbs.

Claire blinked a few times and her pink lips parted. She still seemed slightly dazed. I don't blame her either, because I'm just as shocked. I can't believe I actually did that. I mean when Claire watches Grey's Anatomy, they seem to stop the elevator all the time. I know it's not real but I saw the opportunity and took it. It's not everyday you get to create a fictional reality.

"Owen. What the hell!?!? You can't do that!! It's...it's, it's not Grey's Anatomy!!", Claire blurted out.

I chuckled at the fact that we were completely on the same wavelength. Claire's bewildered face was slowly creeping into a smile.

"Only you would do something like that", she laughed as she lightly shook her head. Her sea green eyes were sparkling with happiness. Claire stepped towards keypad and released the toggle.

"I...I have something to give you, but I guess I'll just give it to you when we get to the suite", I grinned rather sheepishly.

Claire glanced up at me and started laughing. My smile grew broader and I started laughing. Her laugh was so contagious. The elevator doors opened on our floor and we headed to the door unable to wipe the smiles off our faces.

"I probably should of given this to you already but I couldn't find the time", I said rummaging through my gym bag.

"Something blue", I smiled as I handed Claire the box.
I watched as Claire opened the box with her delicate hands. I felt pleased with myself, I could tell that Claire really liked the necklace. I had spent ages picking out and trying to make it more personal.

"I love it. Could you put it on for me please?", Claire spoke gently.
I nodded as she passed me the necklace. Claire held her red hair, that smelt of coconuts out of the way as I fastened it.

"For survival", Claire muttered before turning around to face me.
She stood on her tiptoes and looped her arms around my neck; as our foreheads rested against each other.

"I love you Mr Grady", Claire's breath tickled my face as she spoke.

"I love you too Claire Dearing", I replied.

I latched my lips onto Claire's and snaked my hands around her slender waist. Her sweet lips moved in perfect sync with mine. Every time I kissed Claire it was like the first. Time stood still for us and nothing else mattered.
Our lips gently brushed as we pulled apart from one another.

I looked over at the clock on the wall to check the time. We had a bit of time to kill before we had to be at dinner.

"We have a couple of hours before we have to get ready for dinner. So I don't mind what we do", I said leading Claire over to the couch.

Claire paused for second before answering. "How about we watch Grey's Anatomy", she smirked.

"Okay, you can put it on and I'll get the wine", I sighed trying to hide my smile.

"Don't act like you don't love it as much as I do", Claire mused at me.

I chuckled lightly as I couldn't think of a come back. I put some popcorn in the microwave. Pondered on whether to have white or red wine. I put the popcorn in a bowl before pouring out the white wine. I head back to the couch. I handed Claire her glass and placed the popcorn on the table.

It was cute how Claire continue to watch the show in such awe, despite having seen every episode. To be fair, who doesn't like a good TV drama. Especially when the scenes can become a fictional reality.
