August 12th:
Good morning sunshine! So I flew to NY yesterday morning, Dan flew home. I did a photo set for a magazine up here, was supposed to do 2 days worth, I finished up last night. I'm not ready to fly back to LA yet. So I think I'm going to come back to MD for a few days and take some pictures, I don't have any work assignments until next week. So maybe I'll fly out with you and Jai on Friday? Sorry for the long text! Love you!
At 6:45AM my alarm went off, and my phone chirped at the same time. I was happy but surprised to see Megan text me so early. But I am totally not complaining. Spending more time with her is fantastic. She will definitely have to join Kate, Clare, Amanda and I for girls night on Wednesday.
*YES! I'm so excited for you to come back down! When are you coming back? Wednesday night the girls and I are getting together for typical vagina chatter, and it would be perfect for you to be there.
I am going to leave here tomorrow morning. I'm going to be staying at the Renaissance downtown until Friday morning. And OF COURSE I WILL BE AT GIRLS NIGHT! I will talk to you tomorrow when I get in!
*Perfect Meg! Talk to you soon!
I am really looking forward to today, because I will be at the birth center for most of it. We had all ordered our desks a few weeks back, and they have been delivered. So today, is essentially going to be about decorating. Amanda, one of the midwives, Samantha and I will be setting things up around the office. Apparently all of our waiting room furniture is there, all desk chairs and exam tables. The birthing room beds now only needed to be made. I am going to be like a kid in a candy store.
I showered faster than I probably ever have in my life, kissed a sleeping Jai goodbye and bolted out the door. I picked up Amanda, who was almost as excited as me, and we first headed to Target. My mental shopping list was open because I was going to be buying lots of goods. Amanda had no idea what she was in for. I bought about thirty sets of sheets, pillow cases and light blankets. Enough for rotation of all the beds in the six birthing suites. I picked out soft, neutral colors that would surely contribute to a relaxed environment in my birth center. Luckily all the pillows we're already in the office.
When we left the store, I already had a plan to come back sometime this week for more supplies. You know, for necessities like snacks. With my car loaded with bedding, as well as boxes of my office decor. Which I excitedly loaded into my car yesterday afternoon. Amanda had already dropped her boxes off last week, but chose to wait until I got back from vacation to actually decorate her office. Because we are complete freaks who enjoy doing this kind of thing. We stopped and got a box of coffee from Dunkin Donuts on the way and arrived at Sacred Heart around 9:30AM.
I was ecstatic to walk through the doors and inhale the sweet smell of the new building, as well as lay my eyes on the beautifully painted walls. This really solidified the next chapter of my life that would be starting in about a month. Jack, Dylan's dad, had taken charge of the accounts for our practice, and had taken the reigns to order all the supplies that are all over the office. We had worked together last month along with the other employees that will be working here, and picked everything out. It was a pretty great bonding experience for all of us as well, and we could instantly tell that we were going to be a wild bunch. I couldn't ask for anything better.
Amanda helped me carry my hefty boxes into my new, gorgeous office and I was shocked at some of the things I saw as I walked in. After she happily jogged away to her own office to begin decorating, I stood there, nearly lost in a daze. To my utter shock, there were five large, rectangular boxes sitting on my stunning mahogany desk. I opened one of them, knowing exactly what they were. I pulled out a business card and rubbed it between my fingers. It was cream and brown and a flat matte finish. And I saw my name. I saw my credentials. My work address. My own business cards.
