October 31st:
We luckily had enough candy for the last few kids to sprinkle through. That was a first. In all the years that I stopped trick-or-treating and started handing out candy, we have always run out. This is only the second time that my parents were out of time for it, and they're going to be pretty impressed that we were so prepared. This ain't a cheap gig either, we spent more than you'd expect on this candy. Totally worth it though. The costumes we saw were excellent. From cute to scary, creative to hilarious the view from our porch was great. The five of us were collectively unrecognizable, and the little ones loved us. Some we're sheepish to take candy, others smothered us with a 'whoa' or a 'that's so cool'! All thanks to Clare and her incredible makeup skills, and us for our decorating ones.
And Jai, a guy who has told me that Halloween wasn't really his thing, had a blast scaring the shit out of kids. He actually chased a few down the street. It was a delight to watch. It started moving something in me that wanted to know what he'd be like as a father. If he even wants to be one. If not, he enjoyed freaking them out.
Now, after three hearty hours of this Jai, Clare and I are cleaning up all the decorations and any messes that we made. We didn't have too many things to clean up, but I didn't want to leave anything for my parents to come home to. Amanda and Joel have to both work early in the morning, so I forced them to get some sleep, and that we would handle everything. Taking down the decorations took the longest, but it was easy to pack up. We left all the pumpkins and any other tasteful - and not scary decor until my parents are ready to take that down.
We were all definitely susceptible to a belly ache this evening, that's for sure. Joel had managed to make some spaghetti for us all before the night got into full swing, and then we did exactly what I didn't want to do. Ate a shitload of candy from the handout bowl. Every single one of us was guilty of that.
Jai and I eventually finished picking up and split off from Clare, heading home. I walked in the door first kicking off my pre-loosened knee-high boots. Jai followed behind bee-lining for the couch so that he could take off his own shoes. He still had a big grin on his blood covered face.
"That was so much fun. I think more fun than going to a bar for Halloween," he declared.
"I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I have always loved dressing up and handing out candy. I got the hard Halloween bar hopping pretty much out of my system years ago. Although, I would like to have a party sometime. That'd be fun," I beamed.
"Yeah, that would be fun," Jai agreed.
I could tell that he wanted to rub his eyes badly. He had taken the contacts out before we left my parents' and was trying to keep his hands off his face so he wouldn't get any costume makeup in them. He had just covered them in eye drops, but now they were drying out again. Not wanting to see him struggle to itch his eyes and closing one trying to relieve his irritation, I walked over and grabbed his hand.
"Come on, let's shower. Get all our makeup off," I said while pulling on his hand.
He quickly stood and complied, following close behind me as I walked towards the bedroom. I let go of his hand and headed for the shower to warm it up. I stopped at the mirror for a second to admire my Wicked green skin, shocked that it still looked identical to when Clare put it on. From all the laughing, face scratching and slight sweating I thought for sure that it will be melting off. But, not a smudge. She used really good stuff. I hope I don't have too much of a problem getting it off!
I take my top and skirt off, leaving only my fishnet stockings and underwear the only things left. Glancing again at my reflection, I kik ridiculous with the cut lines of the green makeup stopping shy of my chest and halfway up my arms. I could have a little fun with this.
