Jai
August 2nd:
"Nope. Not a chance."
"Come on," I nudge Ayla's shoulder with mine.
"I can't," she laughs, making a slightly disgusted face. "I will vomit."
I bring a fork-full of the slimy, colorful sea urchin salad up to my mouth.
"Alright, well... Here goes nothing," I confidently say, shoving in into my mouth.
Ayla's horrified face makes me want to bust out laughing, but I continue to chew.
"It's really mushy," I say.
"Ugh, gross" she responds.
"Yeah. Yeah, gross," I agree, swallowing the last piece.
"Here, that just means, more wine!"
She tops our glasses off with the dark red liquid. We were enjoying all the sweet riches of at Santo Winery, and have been for the last two hours. We decided to order a smorgasbord of all the appetizer dishes, which were primarily Greek delicacies. Including the sea urchin salad.
She takes a big, satisfied gulp from her glass.
"Everything else though, mmm," She hums, rubbing her belly.
"God, I know," I utter, taking my own big gulp.
The couple that was at the table next to us, strolls over, with big smiles on their faces.
"Excuse me, didn't want to interrupt, but we totally agree about the sea urchin, bleck!" A slightly middle-aged, American woman said with a laugh.
"Yeah, I don't really know what I was expecting, but I had to give it a try," I smiled back.
"There's no way, I could have done it," Ayla said.
"Me either, I'm with ya there," the woman's husband agreed, making a contorted face.
With an infectious, stunning smile, my love extended her hand.
"I'm Ayla. This is Jai. Are you guys also enjoying an amazing Greek vacation?"
The four of us exchange our greeting shakes with smiles. We learned their names are Denise and Ben.
"Yes we are! Second time to Greece, first time in Santorini," Ben replied.
"Yes, a few years ago we went to Athens, fell in love with it, and knew we'd have to come here next!" Denise bubbily agreed.
"That's wonderful! This is our first time. We're actually heading to Athens tomorrow morning," I informed them.
"Ooh, you both will love it!"
"I know! I can't wait!" Ayla said with a cute little grin, looking up at me.
Damn that infectious smile.
"You are a gorgeous couple, are you married?" Denise asked after taking a drink from her own glass.
"Engaged, actually," Ayla chimed, wiggling the fingers on her left hand. "Just a few days ago!"
I saw her sweet cheeks blush.
"Wait, here? In Santorini? How romantic! Congratulations!" The woman boasted, tossing me an approving glare.
"Wow, that's wonderful, congratulations guys! No better place to celebrate!" Ben exclaimed.
Damn, was he right. This place just doesn't stop being beautiful. Grabbing the bottle from their table, Ben refreshed his and his wife's glass, offering the same to us.
