May 23rd:

It's 8:30. I'm in bed. Images of of what I will be doing to Ayla in a few months floating through my head. Not that I needed any help, but thanks to her texts a little while ago, I can't stop thinking about it.

Just as I'm about to drift into a masturbatory coma, my phone rings.

"Hey baby," I smile into the phone.

"Hey," she quickly says.

"Still hanging with Kate?"

"No she left about 15 minutes ago or so, but," she sighed into the phone.

"But... But what? Is everything okay?"

"So the neighbor-"

"The good looking cop," I sarcastically remark.

Which is exactly how she told me.

"Yeah," she uncomfortably laughed in return.

"What is it?"

"He, um, came on to me. I didn't lead him on, I mean. I don't think-"

"Did something happen?" I desperately ask.

I can feel my heart thumping in my chest.

"He asked me on a date. I told him that I'm engaged. He didn't know, because he has only ever seen me outside gardening," she swallowed into the phone.

"And you don't wear your ring out there," I stated.

"You know that. It doesn't fit well in those gloves, I don't want to get soil in it or break it. I want it to stay perfect-"

"I know. I agree."

"Well, he asked and I told him I was engaged," she said shakily against my ear.

"Okay... Did something else happen?"

I could tell that something wasn't quite right. Her tone sounded different, if I didn't know better, I would say she sounds scared. And that is making me feel raw.

"Well, I went inside after I turned him down, but then he knocked on my door. He," another shaky sigh. "He asked if I was happily engaged because I've never mentioned you and because... Because you're not here."

Because you're not here.

"I told him that I'm very happily engaged and that your work kept you away. I never once made him feel like I wasn't happy with you. He leaned in close to me, he didn't touch me, but it felt like he wanted to kiss me," she proclaimed.

I closed my eyes tight and felt my blood begin to boil.

"Ayla-"

"I pushed him away, I told him that I was sorry if I accidentally led him on. That I'm happy with you, with your work-"

"Ayla, did he touch you?" I growled out.

"No, he didn't. I said that. He was just close to me and I pushed him away. I didn't have to forcefully do it. He left after that," she cleared her throat.

It felt like she was holding something back.

"Did he say anything else to you? Did he-"

"He said," she broke in. "That if I was ever unhappy with you being away for work, to... That I know where to find him."

I felt my entire body shudder with red. With an anger so strong if I squeezed to hard my phone would crumble. The malice washed over me but it was equally met with a strong feeling of despair. I felt my eyes close and my jaws clench.
