Ayla

November 28th:

"So there is an Anthropologie store in DC, but the one in New York has the large bridal section - which is BHLDN," I said to my mom as she was mixing mashed potatoes.

"Ooh, I'm excited! So we're all going up in the 13th?"

"Yes! Everyone is available that weekend, Megan is going to fly into New York Friday afternoon. So she'll actually meet us at the hotel," I told her, holding a bowl for her to dump the creamy potatoes into.

"You already book the hotel?" She asked.

"No, not yet."

"Good! I'll do that tomorrow, don't worry about it. I'm thinking we should do The Plaza," she wiggled her eyebrows in excitement.

"Mom, no, we don't need all that."

"Oh yes we do. We're going to New York City to shop for wedding dresses. And it's December. Let's make a party of it. For Christmas!" She bellowed.

I smiled and thought about that for a second.

"Ooh, you're right. That will be fun!"

I saw Clare and Chris walk into the kitchen and threw them welcoming smiles.

"Hey guys!" My mom chirped. "Happy Thanksgiving!"

"You too, thanks for having us!" Clare responded.

"Oh you know you're always welcome here. Both of you!"

A second later Jai's parents came in, Karen carrying a large dish of what I can only assume is brussel sprouts - which was my idea.

"Hello my loves!" Karen announced to all of us, setting the dish on the counter.

Jai's dad gave my mom and I both a kiss before stealing Clare's Chris away to go find my father and Jai. Something I love about Thanksgiving at my parents' is the fact that it is a giant mingling mix where everyone eats at their own parce. There are small groups of folks gathered throughout the house at all times. Its something I've always grown up with and don't want to ever change.

So the Campbell home is currently scattered with friends, cousins, aunts, uncles and anyone else who wants to join. Football fills the living room and laughter fills the dining room while the drinks flow and the smiles are contagious.

"So, mum and I are dying to know which style dress you love the best?" Clare asks, sipping on a fresh cranberry martini that I made.

"Oh yes, please share!" Karen agreed.

I took a long drink from my now empty martini glass.

"Well, I like them all. I think that I like the August gown, also the Mina and the Jolie... Ugh I want them all. But I have no idea," I sighed. "Who knows, they might all look like shit on me!"

All of the BHLDN dresses are stunning, and I'm serious about getting them all. Maybe I can wear each one at different times during the day?

"Ayla, every one of those is going to be beautiful on you. You'll just have to choose," my mom said, looking at me like I was crazy.

"Yeah!" Karen laughed. "What she said. And I want to see you in all of them."

"Ooh, me too,"Clare nudged.

"Oh, trust me. I have no problem trying them all on. I can't wait."

Knowing that the food was nearly finished, I grabbed the cole slaw out of the fridge. Clare helped grab some other cold items out and in no time my mom was announcing that Thanksgiving dinner was ready. I always wait until everyone else gets their food so that I can swoop in at the end and dig my claws into as much as I want, with no interruptions.
