Bret's P.O.V
I hate seeing her this upset. I didn't mean to make her feel this way, but in all honesty I think it needed to be said. Maybe I came on a little too harsh, and don't get me wrong I didn't mean to.. I was just incredibly angry.
We got to the little shop that sold simple baking pastries. You know, the normal donuts, muffins, cupcakes, and cookies. This shop had almost every flavor you could possibly think of. We entered, and Emily shot right to the front desk. Without even thinking twice, she had our order in, and she was patiently waiting for it to be called out.
"What are you doing? I didn't even tell you what I wanted." She looked up at me and smirked. "Oh come on Bret, I know you like the back of my hand. You like two cupcakes, one chocolate, and the other vanilla. You like the chocolate one with extra icing, and the vanilla one with sprinkles. Plus, you like hot chocolate, with whipped cream. Trust me, I got you covered."
I couldn't believe it. She did know me like the back of her hand. "Oh yeah? Well, what did you get then?" I asked looking down at my best friend.
"My usual, three mega chocolate chip cookies, with a little piece of red velvet cake. I also got a hot chocolate like yours. It seemed almost too good to pass up." She smiled proudly as she remembered everything.
"Emily! The order is ready!" She walked back up to the front desk, and thanked the older woman that worked there. "No problem hun, enjoy now." The older woman smiled and handed Emily the two brown, paper bags.
"This one is yours.." She stated as she handed me the bag. "And this one is mine." She spoke as we headed back outside.
We sat on one of the tables with an umbrella that was outside the shop, and began to eat. All was silent until Emily spoke up.
"Bret, I need you to listen." Oh no. I don't want to fight again with her, but come on... She is basically bringing this on herself now. "Emily I don't want to fight aga-." "No!" She cut me off. "Just.. Please just let me finish." I simply nodded and waited for her to speak as I took sips of my hot chocolate.
"I know that you care for me, and you don't want to see me get hurt, and I love that about you. It's just that I don't want to bring you down with me.. Everything that happens doesn't concern you, and you should trust me enough that if something ever gets too serious, I will come and talk to you. You have always been my shoulder to cry on, and my rock. I know that I can talk to you about anything, but I really need you to stop worrying so much. It isn't good for you, and I feel like a burden on you when I get shoved down, broken, and you always have to come and put my pieces back together. That just isn't who I am, and it's not who I want to be. I will come to you if I think that I can't handle something on my own, okay?"
I didn't know what to say. Oh wait, I sure as hell did. Is she kidding right now? Does she honestly think that I will just stop worrying about her, and let her come to me instead of me just helping her? Doesn't she understand that this is serious, and that I don't want her to go through all of this pain alone. She needs help and I want to help her.
"Bret... Please." She looked at me with pleading eyes, and I gave in.
"Fine." I spat coldly. "But as soon as things get to hard, or you feel scared, or you need a shoulder to cry on... Just remember that I will always be here for you, okay?"
She nodded, and went back to eating, and sipping hot chocolate.
I don't have a good feeling about this.. Not a good feeling at all.
