I tried so hard to get to Bret. It hurt so much to try and walk. I need one of those foam casts that can be walked on, because this piece of shit hurts! I kept going though, acted as though there was no pain. All I thought about was Bret, and what they could have done to him.
After a very painful walk, I made it back. I cringed at what I saw. There, lying on the ground, almost lifeless, was Bret. They were kicking him in the stomach, and punching him in the face. After they all noticed me, they scurried back into the girls car, and drove off. Maybe to leave, or to look for that Drew kid. I was just happy they were gone.
"Bret." I whispered, hoping he would at least move a little bit. To my surprise.. He did. "Oh thank god." I sighed in relief as I walked over to him. He rolled over on his back, and I quickly got on my knees, and put his head on my lap.
"Emily..." He tried so hard to get my name out, but it came out like a faint groan. "Shh, Bret, don't talk. Don't move yet either, I need to see if you are capable to get up, and if you are I'll help you to the car." I played with his hair, and he just kept his eyes closed.
"Help me to the car." He spoke, trying to find his voice. I just nodded my head, even though he couldn't see it. I got up, and pulled on his arms to help him. I tried so hard to ignore the pain that my leg was in, but I couldn't help but let out a couple whimpers here and there.
"This isn't right.. I should be helping you, not the other way around." He grumbled to himself, and I just rolled my eyes.
I got him to his feet, and he bent down to give me my crutches. "Thanks." I said, as I put them under my arms. He put his hand on my waist, and helped me back to the car.

He held my door open, and helped me in. I thanked him, and he shut the door. He walked in front of the car, and over to his door. He opened it, carefully slid in, and slammed the door, making me jump.
"I'm so fucking tired of them. All they do is hurt you, and it's really starting to piss me off." He spoke coldly, and the tension in the air could be cut with a knife. "You don't deserve any of this Emily. I'm so sorry. I wish I could always be by your side and I can't. I'm sorry." He looked at me, and now I can't ignore his words any longer. I would have to speak up.
"It's okay, I just want to get back to the house and fall asleep." I yawned at my words, buckled my seatbelt, and let my head rest on the window.
"Sure thing." He replied, and off we went, back to the house.
