Part Five

The following night, I got really angry at my dad because of burnt pancakes and I threw a large vase at his head. I didn’t mean for it to cause him to get 25 stitches, but shit happens and after many harsh words were exchanged my parents kicked me out of the house. I don’t even know why, they’re such shits.  But yeah, after they threw me out I had nowhere to go. I thought about sleeping on the footpath, but then I saw Mr Purples car pass by me on the side of the street multiple times and I decided to head to Leonards house, as it was the only place I felt would be safe for me at that time. Mr Purple was creeping me out, big time.

When I arrived at Leonard’s house, the familiarity of my surroundings made me beam with delight. There it was, the wooden sign I’d passed when I had first visited him all those years ago, with its painted red background and bright blue block writing. The writing, that spelled out the name of his home.  I smiled, glad I had finally arrived.  The journey to his place had been absolute hell.

I had taken a wrong turn at some point on the journey there, and I ended up in the middle of a dodgey-ass neighbourhood.  I had no idea where I was or where to go. All I knew was that I wasn’t somewhere nice. All around me were boarded up buildings with smashed windows and vandalised walls. Squatters slept in the doorways of shops and drug dealers were doing their business in nearly every alley I walked down. I was grabbed by a few men but luckily I was strong and I knew how to fight them off. I wasn’t keen to hang around in that area though. I knew I needed to get out, fast.

I managed to jump onto a cattle train headed to the other side of town. I didn’t know where it was going at the time, but I just hoped it would take me somewhere nicer than where I was. I fell asleep on the train though, due to my overwhelming tiredness and I was woken up by security guards who had found me and were shaking me awake. Jumping to my feet I’d leapt off the train, which was stationary at the time, and bolted away. When I finally stopped running and looked around me I found myself in the middle of a field. I was out in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but cows for company. Realising that I probably wouldn’t make it any further without sleep I laid down in the long grass and had a nap.

Waking up in the pitch black, I didn’t know where to go.  I just started to run in a straight line through the field until my feet crunched on the hard gravel of the road. It was then that I’d started to walk along the road, following it for what seemed like miles and miles until I came to a house. I walked up the driveway and knocked on their door. A woman in a floral nightie had come to the door with a frown on her face. It was late but she also seemed startled by my appearance. Realising how bad I must have looked I’d apologised, explaining I’d been lost and that I needed to get home fast. Taking pity on me, she’d let me use her phone and shower and had given me some of her clothes to wear. I’d called Leonard from her house, who seemed relieved to hear from me regardless of the fact it was 3.00am. He said he was in the middle of an intense LOL sesh, and so instead of coming himself he sent his mother, and a plate of enchiladas, to drive out to where I was and get me straight away.

After hours and hours of driving we arrived. I had no idea how I’d gotten so far from home, but at least Leonard’s mother was taking care of me now, and comforting me every time I broke into a fit of crying. I breathed in the air around me, with my window down as I took in my surroundings. I was here, at Leonard’s house, and I was safe.
