Eluding Emotion

New Driver

     I just came back from a 3-hour meeting and was resting a little bit when someone knocked on my door. I wasn't expecting anyone since it's just an hour before lunch. I checked my phone to see if Ezra left any messages but there's nothing from him so it can't be Ezra. I pushed myself from the couch and slowly opened the office door.

"Hi, I hope I'm not interrupting anything." it was Lehi holding some papers.

"No, it's fine. I wasn't doing anything."

"Oh good."

"So, what made you come here?" I asked.

"I just wanted to apologize about being such a jerk last week. I didn't mean to be rude. And I'd also like to thank you for hiring me. I really needed the job, so thanks." he smiled.

"Oh, okay. That's fine as long as your performance is always at its best, you can forget about what happened. I hired you because the picture that you took was better than the rest. The other applicants just shot a certain part of the building; almost all of it was the same--dull. You were the only one who was able to show me something more than the building and that impressed me. That's what I want us to show the people looking at the photos that we'll be publishing--that there's more than meets the eye." speaking of eye, he really is looking at me, not breaking eye contact.

"Wow, you went Sam Witwicky on me." he chuckled.

"Excuse me?"

"You know, Sam Witwicky, main character in Trans-"

"I know who he is. I'm fan of Michael Bay." hey, I gotta admit, for a mortal, he's good.

"Wow, so you like movies?"

"Yeah, I—is that all you came here for?" why am I even chatting with him?

"Um, yeah, about that. I'd also like to apply as your driver."

“I don't need a driver. I can drive myself." I pouted.

"Well, you see, Scarlet sent an email to everyone here in the office that you need a driver. Since no one seems too eager to take the job, then I'll take it. You know I need the job—“he really likes to talk doesn't he. "Fine. But I need your requirements by Monday." as soon as I finished my sentence he handed me the papers that he brought with him. "I have all the requirements ready." well, that surprised me.

"Oh, okay." I checked his papers and all of the needed requirements are compiled.

"So when do I start?" he asked breaking the silence.

"It's up to you. As soon as you're available."

"Great. So I'll leave you to yourself now to rest. Have a great afternoon!" he winked at me as he closed the door.

     Well, that went fast. I didn't really need a driver right away, but it's better to have one soon than not get one at all. He looks like he's really rich with the way he handles himself, so why does he need to have two jobs at the same time? Well, that's none of my business so I guess that's fine. I have to get ready for a meeting at 1pm so I better recheck everything that I'll need.

5:00 pm

"Everything's been filed Ms. Snow, you won't have to worry about a thing for today." Scarlet smiled at me.

"Good." was all that I said but she seemed please that I even acknowledged what she did.

"Have a great weekend Ms. Snow!" she waved a little as I turn to leave.

     I got on the elevator glad that I was alone until someone rushed in before the elevator doors closed. So much for being alone. I continued typing a message on my iPhone when the person next to me spoke."Texting your boyfriend to come pick you up?" the voice belonged to Lehi. "No." I answered.

"So you're single?"

"It's none of your business." I looked at him and he was smiling.

"Okay."

     We didn't speak while we were in the elevator and I'm thankful for the silence. When we got out of the elevator we went separate ways since I went out back to the parking area. I was passing by the building when I saw Scarlet hugging Lehi. It irritated me for some reason, I don't know, the sight of them made something boil inside me. It was probably because I don't like it when my employees are publicly displaying their affection. It's just wrong and disgusting. I saw Lehi looking at my car as I drive by, maybe because of the car or maybe Scarlet told him who's driving the white 2014 Audi R8. What the hell am I doing, looking at him? I continued driving distracting my mind with Beethoven.
