Four Years Ago...
"Morning, mom,"
"Happy birthday, sweetie! Go sit down, your pancakes are almost ready," My mother greeted me, her back turned as she placed my pancakes onto a plate. I slowly perched onto a chair and took the glass of orange juice already waiting for me, sipping it carefully. Seconds later, mom came over and placed the plate in front of me and nodded for me to tuck in. I picked up my fork and snagged a piece of the edge, slowly placing it into my mouth and chewing.
"Thanks, mom." I smiled. "Uh, am I still allowed my friends around tonight?"
Mom laughed, seating at a chair next to me and nodded. "Of course Gerard is allowed to come here tonight, he always has been!"
I bit my lip and sighed. "No, I meant, like, not just him, but-"
"Oh," She interrupted. "I understand, you want more than one? Well, Mikey's more than welcome as well, and his cute little friend Frank too."
"Mom, I-"
"And also Bob and Ray, you honestly don't need to ask. Would you like me to order in a pizza later for you all? I know I'm meant to be at work tonight but I could-"
"Mom!" I groaned. "I mean some of my other friends from school! Like, some girls?" I suggested, a pleading smile on my face. She stared back at me, shocked.
"Girls? Sweetheart, you've never mentioned any friends at school who were girls? I thought it was just you and Gerard and a few of your other friends? Oh, and Mikey and Frank too?"
I sighed. "Yeah, but I've made new friends, mom. They're really nice, I don't know how I couldn't of mentioned them before..." I trailed off.
"Oh? And what are their names?"
"Andrea, Beth, Victoria, Laura and Stephanie." I replied back, my face almost filling with pride.
I watched as my mom's brow furrowed, and she shook her head. "Honey, I don't know, I mean...I've never met these girls before? How do I know that their parents will be alright with them staying and..."
"Mom," I groaned again. "You'll love them, and their parents don't care. Please?"
She sighed. "Fine, but I want you to make sure that Gerard's not left out and that he's got friends with him too- it would be uncomfortable for him to be there with a group of girls." She agreed, rolling her eyes a little. "But for now...lets open some presents!" She beamed, rushing off to get my gifts. She soon came back in, a few presents in her arms and placed them on the table. I excitedly opened the first one, and found a jewelry box filled with silver bangles and what not. I giggled and opened the second one, to find some cute tops...which I knew that I wasn't going to wear. Andrea wouldn't really like them, because there's like, cupcakes and everything on the front on one of them and a batman logo on the next etc.
The last one was, to my joy, some makeup. I rose from my chair, flung my arms around her and grabbed the stuff, laughing happily while I skipped off.
"Thank you so much, mom! I'm just gonna get my stuff ready for school!" I called over my shoulder.
I heard her sigh. "But what about your breakfast?"
"I'm not hungry, sorry!" I replied, rushing up the stairs. As soon as I made it to the stop of the staircase, I ran into my room and shut the door behind me, letting out a content sigh. This, today, I could feel it...was going to be the best birthday ever.
Why, you ask?
Well, because I was going to be inviting my friends around for a party after school, when my mom's doing her night shift at the hospital. The friends who are coming, have never really been to one of my partys before, and haven't really spoken to me before the last few weeks...but they're speaking to me now, and they seem to like me, a lot.
The friends are a group of girls, a shock, to my mother, I know. It's a shock because I've always really hung round with boys- one of them including my best friend Gerard. This year will be different though, because these girls are just...amazing.
The leader of the gang is Andrea Barker, the prettiest person in my grade- although to me and our friends, she's the prettiest person in the school. Her hair is sand blonde, mostly curled, and she has these perfect blue eyes which are normally coated with heavy, long eyelashes and a good amount of eyeshadow. She's got a very slim body, which the boys in our classes seem to go nuts for. Mine and Andrea's friends are quite similar to Andrea, apart from Stephanie, who has brown hair, but she's dying it blonde soon.
I walked across the bedroom and stared at myself in the mirror, and sighed, placing the presents on my desk. My hair wasn't blonde, and it wasn't a rich brown either. Nope, it was just a dull black. I didn't have a nice tan, I had a very pale complexion...and my eyes were a weird, pale green. I also didn't have a really nice body to die for either- I was just normal; my chest was almost flat, not like Andrea who was already growing in that part of her body. I groaned to myself. I just looked...awful.
But that would change soon, hopefully.
I smiled to myself, grabbed my backpack and rushed away down the staircase, skidding down the hall.
"Mom, I'm going to school. See you later tonight, love you!" And before she could say another word I was gone, out the door. I glanced across my front yard, to see Gerard, the one and only, leaning against my mail box with a card in his hand. He grinned at me, and I grinned back.
Today was going to be the best birthday ever. I'll make sure of it.
