Chapter Twenty One: Assault on Fort Strong

Nate, Danse, Alex, and Dogmeat enter back on the Flight Deck to meet with Elder Maxson. The elder stood at the end of the Deck, hands behind his back, looking down at a small island from the railing.

Maxson looks behind him to see the group. "Good, I taken you've met with the crew?" he asked.

"Yes, I have," said Nate.

"Excellent," he said. "Now that you've familiarized yourself with the Prydwen's crew, are you ready for your next assignment, brother?"

"What needs to be done?" asked Nate.

"Let's get right to it then, shall we?" said Maxson. "Take a look over there. That's Fort Strong, and it's infested with Super Mutants. Having those aberrations of nature close enough to smell makes me sick to my stomach. To make matters worse, they're sitting on top of a massive stockpile of Fat Man shells we can use in our campaign. I want you to head over there, wipe out everything that moves, and secure that stockpile. Understood?"

"Consider it done," said Nate. "As long as the Institute gets the message about me."

"Look, I understand you're eager to take the fight to the Institute," said Maxson, "but it will have to wait. The Brotherhood cannot allow those abominations to have a nuclear arsenal at their fingertips."

"It'll be a pleasure to exterminate that mutant filth," said Danse.

"Now...we have a Vertibird on standby, fully armed and ready to depart," said Maxson. "Use it to carry our message to Fort Strong and wipe those dirty mutants from the face of the earth. Dismissed."

Nate and the others salute and head towards the nearest Vertibird. They see Casey and Suzy getting in one of them. Alex was surprised to see Casey getting in the pilot's seat. Suzy sat next to her in the front. Nate, Danse, Dogmeat, and Alex hop in.

"You guys ready?" Casey asked with a grin.

"You know how to fly this?!" Alex asked excitedly.

"Yup!" she laughed. Casey starts up the Vertibird. The nacelles and rotors unfold and activate to fly. The Vertibird takes off towards Fort Strong, along with two more following behind. Nate mans the minigun.

As the three Vertibirds flew over the island, gunfire from below erupted. Quite shockingly, a Super Mutant Behemoth appears from behind one of the Fort's destroyed infrastructures. It threw a piece of one of the buildings at Casey's Vertibird. Noticing the piece, she turns the ship to dodge it. Nate looks down, seeing the Behemoth and Super Mutants. Tall, muscular brutes with green skin reminded him of the Hulk from the Marvel comic books.

Nate fires the minigun down at the hostiles, bringing each one down to the ground. Casey fires the frontal guns of the Vertibird at the Behemoth, bringing the monster down to the ground. She lands the ship at a safe distance. A dozen Super Mutants head towards Casey's ship.

"RIP THEIR SPLEENS APART!" yelled one of them. The group comes across the ship, but only to face Nate. He fires the minigun at them, bringing down half of them in a pool of blood and ripped limbs. Alex and Danse leave the ship to engage.

Brotherhood Knights jump down from their Vertibirds and land on the island. The groups fired their laser rifles at the super mutants reinforcements. One by one, bodies and ashes drop to the ground. Nate exits the ship to help out. Fighting in a battle like this wasn't too different from fighting in Anchorage.

Two super mutants with sledgehammers run after Nate. He shoots at one, but the other knocks him down. The mutant raises its sledgehammer and swings it downward, but Nate rolls out of the way. He gets up and punches the super mutant. He grabs its upper and lower jaw and starts pulling them apart. The lower jaw rips off clean, leaving the mutant's tongue dangling. The mutant falls dead.
