Casey drops Nate off at Goodneighbor from her Vertibird. As he enters inside the city, he sees Alex talking to his crush Tam. They were both sitting next to each other on a bench. Nate noticed her laying her head on Alex's shoulder. He smiles a bit, remembering something similar to that with him and Nora.
Just then, a beefy guy walks over to the two. Tam looks up at the guy and stands up angrily.
"John, I thought I told you to leave me the fuck alone!" she yelled.
"Tam, come on, I'm sorry!" he said. "You know I didn't mean that. Please give me-"
"You're not getting another chance," she said. "I'm taking my chances with Alex because he's ten times the man you'll ever be." Alex blushes a deep red in the background. Nate holds in a laugh, but it was only short lived when noticing John getting real angry.
"Tam, don't make me do this!" he yelled, getting closer to her. Before Nate can come in to help her, Alex already comes in to do so. He stood face to face with John, whom looks buffer and much taller than Alex.
"Lay one single finger on her and you'll be sorry for existing in this cruel world," Alex said threateningly.
"Watch me," he grins. John puts his hands on Alex to shove him, but he grabs his wrists and knees him right against his gut. Alex throws jabs across John's face that brought the big man down. Nate watches the fight, feeling impressed by Alex's combat skills. John dazedly scoots away from the two in a very fast pace. Alex rubs his knuckles.
"You...you asshole!" yelled John. "I'm gonna kill you for that!"
"Try me," said Alex. John slowly gets back up, then runs away. Nate approaches Alex.
"You alright?" he asked.
"Not even a scratch," said Alex. "If he comes back, he's gonna get hurt even worse."
"Whoa, thanks Alex," said Tam. "I swear that prick won't leave me alone."
"He will when I'm around with you," he said. "So Nate, what brings you back here?"
"I need to see Amari," said Nate, while pulling out the Courser chip to show them. "This here is the key to get inside the Institute. I just need the code."
"A courser chip!" said Tam. "Every one of them carries one in their head."
"Hey, how did you know that?" he asked.
"Well...I've seen what the Commonwealth has to offer," she said.
"All that matters now is that Nate here has a chance to get inside the Institute," said Alex. "Not only benefitting himself, but everyone else here in this region."
"I'm gonna head over to see Amari," said Nate. "Care to come along?"
"Sure!" said Alex. "What about you, Tam?"
"I don't want John coming back," she smiled, "so yes." The three head back over to the Memory Den. After heading inside, they enter the main lobby and see Doctor Amari on a terminal.
"Hello again, Doctor," said Nate.
"You're back!" she said. "The Glowing Sea. Virgil. What happened?"
"I found Virgil in a cave somewhere in the Glowing Sea," said Nate. "He has a way inside the Institute, but I need a code from this Courser chip right here."
"A courser chip?" she asked. "You fought a courser? Oh my God...unfortunately, I can't help you. I've worked on a lot of synths, but never a courser. I don't know what that chip does, let alone how to decode it. But there are people who might help you with that."
