"Change." They said. "I will." She answered, but she soon realized no one heard he whisper "but maybe not for the better..."

She didn't know why people wanted her to change. Was she not good enough for them? Could she not offer anything to the world? She tried to change. She tried pleasing people. But they just kept the same attitudes. They still despised her no matter what.

It got worse now. The tears started flowing. Her mind started racing. Words started to be spoken. Not kind words either. Everyone started saying them to her too. She never understood why. One day she got fed up. She was trying to make people happy but she was failing. She starts replaying those words in her mind. Ugly, worthless, fat, dumb. And the sad thing is she starts to believe them.

Her mind grows clouded with these insults. The blade that seemed to appear from thin air taunts her. It tells her she will feel much better. It tells her she will feel more in control. That those haunting words will disappear for a short while. The tears in her eyes tell her story too well. She picks up the blade and tells herself "Maybe just once..." We'll that one cut grows to hundreds before her very eyes. The temptation is too strong and it comes everyday.

She starts to not care so much. She starts to not interact as much. She starts to not believe as much. She grows weary. She grows tired. Tired of life. She just wants to give up. She looks in the mirror and sees someone she swears she has never seen before. The girl before her is a stranger. Dark clothes. Dull eyes. Scars littered everywhere. Faded hair. Tear stained cheeks. No smile.

She looks down at her body. She reads the scars like they tell a story. She knows the meaning of each one and what it really stands for. She sighs and holds her blade against her wrist again. Making a fresh cut that will fade soon.

"Are you happy?" She asks aloud. "I've changed..." She's says. And then just like the first day, so no one would hear her, she whispers "but maybe not for the better."
