Hey so this is my first Jalex fanfic so please just 'Barakat' with me. Oh lord I'm sorry that was such a stupid pun! Anyway I hope you like it :3 -KJxxx
*Alex's POV*
I walk into school and no one even bothers to turn their head and look at me, not that I mind that much, I would hate to strut down these hallways and have everyone's eyes on me. I don't understand what the 'popular kids' must feel like when they have people practically begging them to come to their social events. It just seems odd to me, we're all human beings, why do we worship some and ignore others?
When I arrive at my locker there's already a swarm of people crowded around it. Were they waiting for me? No. Of course not. They were all waiting to catch a glimpse of Jack Barakat, one of the most popular guys in this school. I just so happened to be 'blessed' with the locker next to him. That's all I'm known as. 'The kid with the locker next to Jack's' seems to have become my nickname.
The days classes are no more entertaining than usual. Testing in math was full of people asking idiotic questions like 'Is this a group test?' And 'Do we get to use our phones?' Then gym, I'm pretty good in all my academic classes but in gym... I'm lucky if I kick the ball without falling down.
During lunch I sit in my normal spot with the only two people who bother to notice my existence, Rian and Zack. We don't talk much but I know they don't mind me hanging around them. It's not like I do much more than read and doodle during lunch anyway.
Eventually the school day comes to an end and I grab my book bag from my locker. I almost run into a group of girls who were awaiting the arival the 'almighty Jack Barakat'.
"Sorry" I mumble and continue on my way
"Who's he?" That girl needs to learn how to whisper
"I'm not sure, I wish I had his locker though"
Oh don't mind me, I'm just another person you've gone to school with since third grade. It would surprise me if more than two of these kids knew my first name.
On my way home I stop at the library and check out a few books. The librarian, Mrs. Matthews, is a very kind lady, and has a great attitude for a woman her age. She sometimes asks me to help out with putting books away since I visit here so often. It's nice to have someone here who actually looks foreword to seeing me.
When I get home I finish the little homework I have left and put my book bag by the door.
"Alex, honey, can you help me set the table? My boss is coming over for dinner in an hour" Mom says from the dining room
"Sure"
"So what did you do in school today?" She asks as she hands me some plates and napkins
"The usual. How was your day?"
"Pretty good, a little stressful, your father wont be home until eight"
"Oh okay"
"I hope you're going to put on some nicer clothes"
"Yes, mom" I finish setting the table and slump up the stairs to my room. What do I have to wear that's not too casual and not too fancy? All the nicer clothes are in the bottom drawer of my dresser and it only opens halfway. Oh well, I put on a grey button up shirt and some black jeans. That doesn't look too bad. I spike up my hair a little more and wash my face.
The doorbell rings and my mom says
"Alex can you get the door please? I just have to finish making dinner, I'll be done in a minute" This is going to be awkward, what should I say to him? I open the door and he says
"Hello, sir, is Isobel here? I'm her boss, Mr. Beckhart" Sir? This guy's practically wearing a tuxedo without the bow tie.
"Yes, she's in the kitchen finishing dinner, she should be out in a minute. Here, let me take your coat" Polite enough. He hands me his coat and I carefully hang it on the rack. I show him to the dining room and excuse myself to go help mom in the kitchen.
"Mom, I got this. Go talk to your boss and I'll bring this out to you guys"
"Thanks, honey" She quickly squeezes my shoulder and goes into the dining room. All I have to do is bring the bowls of noodles and spaghetti sauce to the table. Please God don't let me trip or my mom will never forgive me.
I make it to the table with the food still in tact. It was quite the graceful delivery if you ask me.
*Jack's POV*
"Come on, Jack, it's just a small get together" Kelsey keeps bugging me about coming to her party tonight. I just need one night to stay home and do nothing, I've been running around doing shit for everyone else all week.
"I'm sorry, Kels, I can't tonight" I say, putting my books in my backpack and closing my locker.
"Fine, you used to be fun" She stomps away. Seriously, she doesn't need to be so dramatic.
~~~~~~~~
"Hey, mom" I throw my backpack in the coat closet for tomorrow and head into the kitchen to get a snack.
"Well I didn't expect to see you here until much later, I thought you had to go to that party at whatshername's house?"
"Yeah, I decided not to go, kinda tired of all the parties" I shrug, looking through the cabinets for some chips or something.
"You know I'm going to hear about it from her mom at book club next week"
"Sorry mom" I try to give her an innocent look
"You're just lucky you have the best mom in the world" She chuckles and opens the fridge "So what should I make for dinner?"
"Pizza?"
"Yeah, that sounds good. I think I've got some extra olives in the fridge"
"Do you need any help?"
"Are you desperately in need of some money or something?" Gee, mom. Can't I help out with no ulterior motive?
"No, I've just finally got some free time"
"Okay, yeah can you please get all the toppings and stuff out?"
"Sure"
It's so weird having time to myself. I'm a little lost. What do most people do when they're not at parties or school? I guess I'll just relax and listen to music. I lay down on the couch and listen to Blink 182. Hmm... This is pretty cool, I should do this more often.
"Jack... Jack!" My music stops and my dad says "How can you even hear yourself think with your music so loud? If you keep that up you wont be able to hear anything"
"Yeah, yeah" I turn my music back on and reduce the volume a little
"So why didn't you want to go to that party?" I know I go out a lot but this is more surprising to everybody than it should be. Why don't they just put it in a newspaper?
"I just needed one day to stay home"
"Wish I could do the same with work" He mumbles and walks away
So nobody thinks I can take some time off? Really it isn't that big of a deal that I'm not out partying?
I spend the rest of my free time catching up on some old tv shows and eating ice cream. What a time to be alive...
First official chapter whoo! Hope you liked it, tell me what you think. Please vote and comment. Thanks for reading! :3 -KJxxx
