As I ride with him in his lifted, green Jeep I can feel the tension growing between us. It is a tension based on the unknown and uncertainty of what is happening between us but neither of us are ready to acknowledge it.

We are on our way to grab something to eat and his phone rings. He hesitates in answering which gives me the slightest hope that I'm not the only one feeling this way.

But, he answers. They talk for a few minutes while I become lost in thought staring out the window. I quickly come back when I realize he is talking to me but he still has the phone up to his ear, "January says hi."

She knows. Women know – we just know.

He hangs up the phone as we pull into Sonic to grab a quick bite to eat before heading back to my place.

We make it back to my house without much being said between us. It's dark and the living room lamp is just enough lighting for us to just relax and finally talk. The conversation turns to music.

"Have you came up with your song yet?" he asks.

I had but I'm not sure if I'm ready to let him listen to it. All the what-ifs cloud my mind. What if my feelings are one-sided? What if whatever was happening was just a glimmer of hope in the dark days that have surrounded me since my father's death? What if I was just clinging to him because he seemed to be the only stable thing left in my world? What if I'm wrong?

"Do you have yours?" comes tumbling out of my mouth.

"Yep."

I slide farther down on the loveseat and lean my head back. "You go first, then."

He takes a slow breath, just enough for me to glance his way. He looks me straight in the eyes and says, "Holding Her and Loving You."
