Windi hugs me as soon as we walk in the door. "I'm not going to ask because I know it's not any of my business. Alex is pretty frustrated with him so I'm assuming it has something to do with all that. Just know that I'm here if you need a friend," she smiles as she releases me and checks her reflection in the mirror. "I drove if you want me to take you home."
"I'll be okay," I say as I wet a paper towel and dab it under my eyes. "I think things are winding down anyway so I'm sure we will head home soon."
She looks at me with sadness in her eyes. "You're a stronger woman than I am but I know he loves you. You can tell by the way he looks at you."
I appreciate her words but doubt has been creeping in every chance it gets. "Thanks, Windi. I needed to hear that."
We finish in the bathroom and make our way back to the group. Jace walks up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist as he rests his head on my shoulder and kisses my neck. "You about ready?"
I nod and go tell Windi bye while changing my shoes and grabbing my helmet and jacket.
"Call me if you need me," Windi says with a smile as she squeezes my shoulder.
I smile and make my way back over to Jace while he is slipping on his jacket. He grabs my hand completely oblivious to the turmoil that is raging in my head and we make our way outside to the bike. I look up when I feel a droplet of rain fall against my cheek.
"Is it supposed to rain?" I ask looking at the dark sky.
He follows my eyes and looks up. "I didn't think so but it kind of feels like it might. I'll hurry and hopefully we will beat it home."
I shake my head, "When have you not hurried on your bike?"
He smiles while he slips on his helmet and I climb onto the back of the bike. I assume my normal position with my left hand resting on his leg and my right wrapped around him coming to a rest on the gas tank. We make it to the first red light before the sky opens up. Rain is pelting my helmet and sliding down the back and making its way down my neck. I duck my head behind Jace to avoid as much rain as possible but my jeans are soaked. I struggle to unzip his jacket pockets before shoving my hands inside.
He weaves in and out of traffic and our normally 20 minute ride home is cut in half. We pull under the carport and I start to run inside when he grabs my hand. We are standing in the pouring rain and I try to pull away towards the porch as I yell, "Come on! I'm drenched!"
He lifts the face mask on his helmet and I do the same. He leans towards me so I can hear him over my helmet and the rain. "I know you are mad at me and you have every right to be but I need you to know that I love you. And I keep screwing up but it's you I keep coming back to." He takes his helmet off and slips it over his arm. "I love you, babe. That's it. That's all I have to say."
I unfasten my helmet and slide it over my head. Rain is slipping down my face and I begin to speak as he pulls me into him and crashes into my lips.
"I love you, too," I manage to say as we kiss in the rain.
