I wake up the next morning entangled in arms and legs with my neck aching from sleeping next to Jace on the small couch. We are facing each other with him against the back of the couch so I slowly try to remove myself from his grasp without waking him. I manage to get my legs loose before I feel his arms tense around me.
"Where you going?" he asks sleepily without opening his eyes.
I grin. "I need to pee," I whisper as he loosens his grip and I stand to stretch. He rolls over onto his back and stretches, taking up the entire couch.
He groans and throws his arm over his eyes, "What time is it?"
I look at the clock hanging above the TV and realize we slept much later than I normally do. "It's just after 10," I say as I make my way to the bathroom in my bedroom. "Get up and you can help me with breakfast."
I hear him groan again as he sits up on the couch. I'm still wearing the clothes I had on the day before so I quickly change into something more comfortable after I use the bathroom. I pull my hair into a mess on the top of my head and brush my teeth. I check my reflection in the mirror before making my way through my bedroom. He catches me in the doorway.
"Good morning," he smiles, more awake this time, as his hands make their way to my waist. He pulls me towards him quickly but then slowly lowers his forehead to mine. Not a single word is spoken between us as he stares into my eyes. The butterflies in my stomach come back with a vengeance as he gently leans in to kiss me.
I'm not sure what I was expecting for our first kiss but all thoughts go out the window the minute his lips touch mine. His hands leave my waist and are encompassing my face and neck as I part my lips. My arms automatically go around his back as he pulls me closer to him. His lips are soft but the kiss is full of passion. He pulls away and I watch his lips pull up into a half grin.
"Good morning to you, too," I say as I look up and smile. He quickly kisses my forehead before grabbing my hand and turning towards the living room.
"What did you say about breakfast," he asks as he walks into the kitchen and leans against the counter. "I'm starving." He still has ahold of my hand and pulls me towards him until I'm leaning against him. He moves his arms around my waist as I rest mine on his shoulders.
"Unless you want to make a trip to the grocery store, we have limited options," I say as I mentally go through my refrigerator and cabinets. "I think I have the stuff to make pancakes and eggs but other than that your choices are cereal or oatmeal."
"Do you have bread," he asks glancing behind him to the counter. He spots the loaf of bread as I hear the distant ring of my phone. "I'll start breakfast and you go find your phone." He gives me a quick kiss and let's go of my waist as I turn towards the sound of my phone.
I hear cabinets opening and closing behind me as he looks for the things he needs and I find my phone buried in the couch. I see numerous missed text messages and a phone call from my best friend, Elena. Before I can click on her name to call her back, her number flashes on my screen again. I hit answer but before I get the first word out she is already drilling me with questions.
"Where have you been? Are you home? Why haven't you answered my messages this morning?" She knows the answer before I reply. "Are you with Jace?"
"Well, hello and good morning to you, too, my dear," I say as I sit down on the couch to watch Jace in the kitchen. He pulls his phone out of his pocket and glances at the screen before turning to me. "Is that Elena?" he asks scrolling through his phone. "She's texted me several times."
"Is that Jace?" she yells hearing his voice. "I knew you two were together! No wonder I couldn't get ahold of either of you! Please tell me he didn't stay the night. Or maybe that's a good thing. Did he break it off with January?"
I laugh as I nod towards Jace, "Yes, Jace is here and he's currently cooking me breakfast. I'll tell you everything later."
"You can tell us tomorrow on our way to the airport. We need to leave pretty early because our flight leaves just after lunch. See if Jace wants to come that way you don't have to make the trip back home by yourself."
"Will do. I'll call you later and we can work out the details."
We finish our call and I lean back on the couch. Elena and I have been best friends since we graduated from high school and she started working with me at Sonic. She knows everything there is to know about me and has been friends with Jace since they were in middle school. I'm contemplating how I'm going to survive two weeks without her while she is in Germany with her boyfriend Matt when Jace appears in front of me holding out his hands.
"Breakfast is ready," he says as he grabs my hands and pulls me up from the couch. "I hope you like French toast."
I nod, "I have to take Elena and Matt to the airport tomorrow. Want to go with me? They are flying out of Tyson-McGhee and I'd love some company on the two-hour drive."
"Of course," he says as he plants another kiss on my lips. "I would love to spend the day with you."
